If it has a action , drama , dark humor , and a deep plot I love it. I tend to avoid slice of life , or really humorous, and especially harem anime's cause they tend to be extremely boring in my opinion.

Yep, slice of life. Seen so many, it's hard to keep track of. But then again, I'll watch anything that's suggested to me as well.

I am not drawn into any specific genre, but there are two that do turn me off. I will not watch any long running show, they all seem to have the same character personalities and with the massive amount of episodes the story line just seems sooo stretched out it bores me. The other genre I absolutely cannot do is sports. I have never liked any sports anime I have ever seen. Other than those two though, I am down for anything.

To be honest, I've noticed that if the following genre are not present in an anime.. I begin to lose interest.

Action.
Comedy.
Drama.
Romance.

However, it also depends on the degree of each one. It has to be balanced.

As far as anime specific genres such as shoujos, slice of life, school life.. I'm not too picky. I don't mind watching it all, so long as it includes the genres mention above.

I have noticed that I do like watching anime with school life. I enjoy how before each class, students are required to bow before sitting. I love the festivals they set up and how each home room gets to build their own booth and have family/friends & outsiders come visit them.

It's beautiful.

I find myself drawn to pretty much anything Seinen. The specific genre doesn't really matter, I'll go from watching a horribly messed up horror anime, then immediately go watch a sappy romance.

There's probably more things that turn me off really. I won't get into any kind of long runners. The time investment usually isn't worth it IMO and it feels like it drags out way too long. If things start to dip down into the shounen demographic, it starts to drive me away too, since the themes prevalent there bother me a bit.

And for some reason I just don't like mecha. I'll watch it if it's *GOOD* in other regards, but in most cases I just can't do it.

This is a really good question. It really depends on my mood really. At first it was Romance and Comedy. For sure, that has gotten me started in watching anime. But over the years it switched to Action and as of right now Comedy (Gintama) haha most of the time I just watch the anime and give it a try, despite the genre. If it doesn't work out than I just move on

My choice definitely varies on my mood and experiences around the time I'm looking for something fresh to watch.
That could range from wanting to watch a silly rom-com when I feel a little overworked and down to even things out or be in the same mindset but vent my aggression by watching gratuitous amounts of suspense and mind-blowing action.
I generally don't stray to watching "random" shows as much since they tend to either be more or less reflective or refractive of my current inclination.
Watching anime for me is somewhat a nice piece of mind, no matter the genre.

Meh, not really. I watch a nice variety of shojo (straight or shonen-ai), shonen, etc. although I seem to watch a lot of odd, violent and psychological thriller anime.
