It's an anime that kind of needs to be watched whether you hate it or not. I rate it pretty poorly but it teaches you a good lesson on how reality differs from the BS you typically see happen in anime. That said Makoto makes the worst possible choices at every turn so the entire show becomes highly exaggerated but it still applicable.

I watched this awhile ago but basically, it takes the harem genre and deconstructs in a way that is a bit more brutal than some other anime series I've seen. I'm not sure how realistic it is but the series wasn't a pleasant experience for me, either the beginning or the end. Oh and yes, the ending was .....eh, well you have to watch it to find out but might not be something you might expect if you decide to watch School Days.

Show doesn't have a content advisory on it and is probably is one of the more sexually explicit series on this site.l. Don't why the hullabaloo is about.

I think I know what you are talking about though. "LAWL"

Aw. I'm guessing I know the gist of it. Sometimes it's not so much what you write, as how you write it--I challenge you to rewrite it in a forum-appropriate manner (and without spoilers, or with spoilers in a spoiler tag).

School Days take 2:

School days can be summarized as the misadventures of a protagonist-kun named, Itou Makoto. Our story begins like any other, a feeling of love sparked by a simple train window glance of the most beautiful girl in the world. When Makoto finally gets the courage to ask our beloved maiden Katsura Kotonoha out he is rewarded beyond belief. Included with his girlfriend comes a package of a little sister, good lunches, entitlement, depression, joy, emotional roller coaster, and a soon to begin, love triangle, the list goes on and on. BTW this is just episode 1, you have no idea what episode 2 & 3 has in store. If episode 1 doesn't entice your appetite for a great teenaged oriented dark drama, I do not know what else can.

All in all, this show was not enjoyable in the least. None of the characters were likable at all and the story is as interesting as a wet carrot.

I completely agree with this. I find it hard to believe so many people are defending a show that is based 110% on shock value.
If you are looking for a "different" anime then School Days may be a candidate for you. However, just keep in mind that "different" doesn't mean that it's any good. The characters, storytelling, music, and basically anything that isn't the animation itself are pretty awful in this show.

Here is a quick quiz to see if School Days is for you.

You are a girl in High School. You just found out the guy you've been dating for two days is cheating on you with the school bimbo. Probably several other girls too. What do you do?
A.) Dump him. He doesn't deserve you anyway. There are other fish in the sea. Etc.
B.) You try to save the relationship by any means necessary.
C.) You go completely...unquestionably...insane. Insane beyond the point of no return.

If you chose A. then avoid School Days. It may seem slightly interesting. But it isn't.
If you chose B. then give it a watch. You may find some enjoyment within all the garbage.
If you chose C. then you need to buy the DVDs, collect the figures, and import the video game because this is the show you've been dreaming of.

I just did a marathon of School Days in one sitting. I had always heard about its ending, but I was not prepared for what I got.

Don't get me wrong, the ending was epic and the anime now ranks in my top 10.

The main character starts out a prototypical guy, but you quickly realize he has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. In fact you would be hard pressed to find a single character who isn't a little messed up. You want to find someone to root for, but there isn't one.

Based on shock value? Maybe, but when you watch anime the way relationships play out is so unrealistic in the harem genre. If you honestly think it is that bad you don't understand why the characters act they way they do you have a warped perception of humanity being a lot rosier than it actually is. As an anime I don't enjoy watching it much but as I said before it's something that should be watched to get a taste of the reality of harem situations. Yes everyone and everything is exaggerated to the highest extent in School Days but varying degrees of crazy are to be expected if this anime were to play out in the real world where people don't react the way that might be considered the most sane.

If you guys are really looking for a anime based around relationships that takes a more realistic view on them and can tolerate the rotoscoping... check out Flowers of Evil if you haven't already. The characters are actually pretty much believable, it exaggerates some things a little but it never really goes over a line that makes it unrealistic. Basically I could see a similar story actually happening in the real world. Many of the characters are also, I wouldn't say darker, but more real. No one is a trope character, save maybe the fat guy with the afro and the one pushy chick who is friends with Nanako.

School Days is a MUST watch anime

1) It takes a traditional harem genre, and actually does something unique with it! This alone, deviating from the standard formula makes this a worthwhile must watch. Answer this question: Did you start to like anime because it WAS different from the standard CARTOON? If you answered YES, then this is a must watch!

2) People say things here, but act different in real life. By the time you finish, ask yourself if you would/would not do a lot of what the main character does. If you can be honest with yourself it is very thought provoking.

BTW (for me): When I was in High school, the answer is WOULD, as I am older (and hopefully wiser) the answer is would NOT. (Too many people here say would NOT all the time, but I just can't believe that. Like I said if you can be honest with yourself, it can be very thought-provoking)

I would say you must watch this, and then it would be really interesting to hear your take on it!
