- over-sexualized females that seem mentally hindered in some way and exist purely for fanservice. You're stupid and your boobs don't make up for it. GTFO.
- "poor" art design or animation....as defined by me lol
- over-the-top fanservice....like ridiculous amounts of pantsu shots of very young girls
- anything where people "battle" with cards or crap. Also with this, multicolored and spiky hair for the male MC.
- Reverse harem on the cover (not saying it's bad....just not me lol)
- Shounen MC's that can beat anything just by finding their resolve. F**k that....you just became a whatever you're supposed to be and you're going to beat a super-strong opponent by beating a ladder of foes that coincidentally escalates in difficulty? Screw you.

Let's see...
-overly powerful characters
-harem shows in general or Love Dodecahedron plots
-over hyped shows
-too much fanservice

it's not like i hate romance or love triangles but when you have over a dozen different women in love with the same spineless guy it feels like pathetic wish fulfillment. If i wanted that sort of thing i would read one of those bad fan fictions.

Nothing in particular. I can't really come up with anything that would necessarily make me drop a show. The only thing I could come up with is boredom, but even then, there are situations in which I'd still watch even though I'm bored as hell watching it. For example, I found most of the first half of Evangelion utterly frustrating to watch, but because of the well-regarded second half, I continued to watch. The only requirement for not dropping a series is that it somehow holds my interest. Poorly done fanservice tends to be a bit of a bother, but if the rest of the show is well-done, why not keep watching it? Plus, I've also seen well-done fanservice that adds to the atmosphere, so I can't even say that fanservice alone is a turn-off. So with that, the only thing that might turn me off to a show is that it is uninteresting.

I'd say crappy MCs are the main turnoff.

I could just about tolerate Highschool of the Dead because of some characters.

I dislike the in your face perverted stuff and the generic yet overly cutesy art styles. I don't mind the cute stuff that are a little unique in style or execution though.

For me:

- Incest
- Over the top fan-service (when it doesn't feel natural and it's just forced, *cough* Fairy Tail *cough*)

If the official image looks like a harem, or anything in the description sounds like it's going to be a harem.
Basically, if it has harem aspects, it's a big NO for me.

1. Yaoi.
2. Whiny lead characters.
3. A lack of anything exciting in the first episode.
4. Crappy animation.
5. Unnecessary levels of Ecchi.

If it looks like typical shounen junk, I won't even bother with it. For me shounen is like the anime equivalent of blockbuster action movies with lots of explosions and no plot or soul. 300 episodes of shallow inner monologues, little to no character growth, shouting at each other, blowing craters in the earth... yeah, okay. Can't even begin to care.

I'm also having a harder and harder time sticking with anime where the main character is completely, earth-shatteringly oblivious. The "I can't help but treat girls like garbage because I'm socially awkward and don't know how to act around them" trope is just played out, and it's not a valid excuse.

unnecessary censorship that takes up over half the screen, ridiculously boring story plot, and when an anime seems to just start shoving the whole "No one is better than Japan" thing down people's throat.

After reading all these comments, I now know why people really like fan-fiction/wanting to write their own "anime" series. You guys to create some good and I'm sure of it.

There isn't much that turns me off in anime since I rarely drop anime at all, but I'll give it a shot

Pretty much everything for me has already been said already, but I'll list them anyways ***Feel free to disagree with me if you like :)***:

- Too much fanservice: Just like everyone else on this thread, too much fanservice can be a real turn off. Don't get me wrong, fanservice is perfectly fine if done in an moderation and when there is a reason for the fanservice (an example of this would be Free! - Iwatobi Swim Club), but when the fanservice (of any kind, whether directed towards girls or guys) has pointless panty shots and whatnot every 2 minutes and for no particular reason, than it gets quite annoying and irritating.

- Bad Animation/Character Designs: If the anime or its characters are not appealing to look at, than it kind of ruins the whole feel of the anime and it's just not nice to look at, which is quite a shame. For me, even worse than bad animation is bad character designs. Usually with characters for me, what makes it or breaks it is the character's hairstyle or hair color. If either of those are unappealing, than I'm automatically turned off.

- Loud, Annoying, or Crybaby Female Characters: This is the reason why 95% of all my favorite anime characters of all time are male characters and not female ones. Most female characters are just so loud, obnoxious, unappealing and too tsundere as well. My ears hurt and ring all day long because of how obnoxious they are. Not to mention that female characters that cry way too much over nothing are just useless and are underrating themselves or think they need to depend on their friends, family, or men to protect them. YOU DON'T NEED A GUY TO PROTECT YOU, grow a backbone and learn to take care of yourself!

- Overly Masculine Male Characters: This one may just be me this time, but male characters who are WAY to masculine and proud to be a guy is one of the biggest turn offs for me, whether physically or mentally. An example of physically would be the characters from DBZ..........their muscles are WAY to unrealistic and just gross and just not appealing (this is one of the biggest reasons why I hate DBZ ^^"). It's just irritating when a male characters goes on about how strong and manly he is, and thinks it attractive to show off his masculinity like flexing his muscles or saying things like "I'm a big and strong man who can protect you!" to a girl but has nothing to back it up, they're all just meatheads. This whole point relates to real guys for me too, actually. I actually find guys who are more sensitive and a little feminine to be much more attractive and having better personalities.

- No Originality: When I say no originality, I mean on anything pretty much. If an anime has no originality with it's characters/character archetypes, storyline/plot, setting, etc., then it gets quite boring and you get to thinking "I've already seen this setup thousands of times...". I mean, come on, at least add an interesting twist or something. I get it that it can be hard to be original with anime nowadays, but at least come up with something, no matter how ridiculous it may be.

- Under Appreciated Anime: This doesn't have to do with something in anime in particular, but anime that don't get appreciated enough really pisses me off. Every anime has some potential and has something unique about it, whether you dislike the show or not. If the anime has fans, then it's doing something right to deserve those fans, even when you don't like a single thing about it. It's perfectly, 100% fine if you dislike the show and names the things why you dislike it, but when you go as far as to go into threads or conversations to harass the fans on constant "Why do you like this shit show of an anime?", it's very unattractive. I do admit, fans of some anime can be equally as bad, but they really wouldn't have to be like that if they weren't harassed so much about liking something that someones else doesn't

There are probably other things, but I can't think of them right now.

However, at the end of the day, I usually overlook these things and if I end up enjoying the series anyways, than it doesn't matter if it had any of these things listed above. I love anime for it's amazingness and flaws It's what makes it so unique to me.

Blatant or over the top (especially female) fanservice or when it just doesn't make sense.

A very big gap in male to female character ratio and/or where one is pretty much irrelevant to the story. Though there are obvious exceptions for yaoi, yuri and a few harems, I really like a balanced cast.

Idiot protagonists that stays an idiot

Too much moe.

Mecha

Incest

When a manga adaptation steers away from the source material

Bad animation or art direction

Series longer than FMA:B, no thanks.
Rancid voice-acting (usually only applies to Eng dubs).
Comedy series with minimal comedy.
I have no issue with yaoi's existence, but I can't watch it. Just can't.
Male protagonists that, despite being border-line retarded, build up a harem.

Edit: Censored ecchi is another thing. Just... why?
