I buy most of my manga from rightstuf.com and amazon.com. If it is an out of print book I try places like ebay and powells.com.

I don't really read darker manga so I can't give you a lot of good suggestions in that genera, but here are some you may want to check out:

Death Note
Monster
Hellsing
Fullmetal Alchemist
Zombie-Loan

I enjoy dark manga like gantz, Rainbow: Nisha Rokubo no Shichinin, Phantom requiem for the phantom, Darker than black, Shingeki no kyojin and Battle royal.

I'm going to recommend Deadman Wonderland, Zetman, Black Lagoon, Dogs: Bullets & Carnage, Area-D, Shamo, Terra ForMars, Until Death Do Us Part, and Ibitsu. Vagabond is on my "to read" list, as I've heard great things about it. I don't know which of these available in hardcopy, and which are only available as online scanlations. Good luck.

But Gantz is the best. The story is amazing and the art is unbelievable. I am very sad that it is ending, and will be on the lookout for Oku Hiroya's next work. I'll also be following this thread to see what everyone else recommends. We seem to have similar taste.

The Death Note anime was a fairly close adaption of the manga so there isn't much of a difference until the very, very end (I prefer the manga ending) so I don't know if you would want to check it out if you have seen the anime.

The Zombie-Loan manga is much better then the anime version. They cut out some of the funniest part of the manga in the anime, and it stops right when the the story was starting to get good.

Did you read the FMA manga or just saw the anime? and if it was just the anime was it the original one, Brotherhood, or both? Brotherhood fallows the manga fairly closely but I still like the manga more. Hiromu Arakawa has a great sense of panel layout, great easy to fallow fight scene, and a good sense of humor that makes her manga fun to read.

666 Satan it's not exactly what you are looking for but you really should give the manga a try. It's well worth it!

Seconded Monster, 20th Century Boys and Akumetsu

Adding:
Are You Alice? - not exactly dark dark, but is a much darker take on alice in wonderland. art is beautiful
Dorohedoro - incredibly dark and gritty, with an amazing and original plot.. 10/10 recommend
I Am a Hero - Pretty dark. Main character suffers from deliusions.. but there is faaaaaar more to it than that later.
The Sleepy Residents of Birdcage Manor - starts off with a prostitute ring-type deal, really really good and pretty dark (although it evolves into something lighter)
Kiseijuu - The english name for this is Parasyte.. so.. yeah.
Homunculus - "Trepanation is the procedure of drilling a hole in the skull. It is said to awaken the 6th sense, ESP." The main story of this manga follows this.. pretty 'dark'.

I hope these are good for you :)

btw don't you think gantz was better when they we're doing the missions/vampires? at this point seems like the vampire arc was just filler lol

I'm waiting for the final two chapters to be scanlated. The anime followed the manga exactly until the bullshit ending, but the manga got even better after the anime ended. If you haven't read the full manga yet, read that first and then Deadman Wonderland next. Both are musts.

Edit: I agree that vampire arc was filler-ish, but it did serve to bring Kei back into the suit.

Ah, I think it got cancelled at the last minute or something, as it follows the manga very closely, only the manga continues after that ending scene. The manga did go on hiatus for a long time while the mangaka was on extended maternity leave, but she's up and running now and will be finishing the series soon I think. Try reading the manga scanlations online, and then decide how you feel about it.

I like reading at MangaPark because I can load all the pages at once and don't have to click my way through. I also use Avast! to remove the ads from the page. So nice!
