For a while now I've been thinking about studing abroad in Japan for my junior year of high school. I was wondering if I should do it and if the programs are any good.

When I was in high school we had lots of exchange students.

& my best friend (while she was in 11th grade) was involved in a program where she went to Japan.

Actually I know that a High School in Shizuoka does exchange High School students as do other various schools. The problem is that your school must be a sister city with that school. So unless your school has a Japanese program, chances are you won't be able to go until you enter college (where it becomes much easier)....

But my friends are in Shizuoka now studying and they love it! I mean, I think that it's VERY helpful to learn Japanese before college so I strongly suggest it but...
I guess I could check this out and ask my uncle. He knows some of the deans of the surrounding High Schools. If there is one down here in Fukuoka, I will let you know!!!

Please message me and I will know who to send it to.

Junior year??? Isn't that when you supposed to be either taking your APs or IBs? School wise, it is not a good time to be traveling abroad unless you really don't care too much about your workload. I'd advise you to do it in college or senior year of high school (then again some people's senior year is just as bad as their junior year). There are more opportunities available in college and more choices too.

But its up to you in the end.

Actually at my school Junior is probably the easiest. Its Freshmen and Sophmore years that suck.

Rotary International runs a lot of good exchange programs and if you get chosen they will cover all the costs. I believe they have a program in Japan as well, though depending on how long you have until your junior year, it may be too late to apply.

GO FOR IT!!!! IT'S WORTH THE TIME AND MONEY!!!!! it also depends on which agency your going with too! i went to Japan in 2002 through ASSE and they take very great care of their exchange students! here's the link!! http://www.asse.com/
