I haven't seen a post about this in a long time, so does anyone know what the current status/plan is for 1080p vidoes on Roku? Last I checked, it looked like this would be a resource intensive process, but that was time ago: http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-706255/crunchyroll-does-not-actually-stream-hd-content?pg=1#36219432

Have there been any updates on this, or is it something still in the planning stages?

Once HD videos are available on the Roku, I would expect them to be 720p, not 1080p for the following reasons:

1. No other app currently offers any videos above 720p.

2. Some Roku units don't support 1080p.

It would probably have been better to post this in the Roku topic rather than creating a new one.

I would also love some news on Roku in HD for Crunchyroll. I saw it was forthcoming but I haven't seen any news in a year or so.

Is there any sort of tentative time table in place for seeing that? I'm also fine if it's something that probably won't end up happening, I think that the streams are nice as they are. It's not a deal breaker for my CR subscription or anything, I quite like this service. But I definitely wouldn't be opposed to a bump up to higher quality on there at some point. :)

The other topic on this has been locked so this is probably as good a place as any.

With the new layout, please feel free to just pose your quests in a new thread.

We're still working on it. It's going to involve streaming in a different format for the Roku than we currently do.
We actually tried to quietly roll out 720p a little while ago.... but it didn't work out so well.

I do not know if / when 1080p will be supported but 720p hopefully sometime soon.

I am also waiting on 720p for the Roku. Especially as the Xbox 360 app has the skipping issue and the PS3 app doesn't exist in the UK. I'm making the effort to stay legit in my Anime viewing but the quality drop is beginning to grate now.

Idk my roku 2 xs streams 1080P just fine. I agree though I wish it was at least 720P, the lack of HD keeps me from watching crunchyroll on my roku.

I bought a roku 3 today just for Crunchyroll. The video quality sucks! Anymore news on this or should I just return it and get the apple tv? It plays 1080p on my laptop just fine.

Two posts up:

We are still working on it (at least for 720).

BTW, I use a Roku, and I'm completely happy with the video quality.

Thanks. I went ahead and returned it and got the Apple TV. The video quality on Roku was just not on par with what I expect from Crunchyroll for a premium user. It's much better on the apple tv.

After using an AppleTV while dog-sitting for my parents, I was amazed at how much better it looked. And that was an older AppleTV that only goes up to 720p! Roku's picture quality never looked "bad" to me but the 720p looked so great that I really missed it when I went back home. The only thing I didn't like on the AppleTV app was the lack of preview windows when you skip forward or back.

The difference is HUGE! After watching 1080 on the computer you get spoiled. the apple tv doesn't look that bad, then you go to roku and it's just a joke especially when it's hooked up to a big screen tv. :/ I plugged in the Apple TV yesterday and it looks great!

I just don't get why you would even allow low res vids on an HD device, kinda defeats the purpose imo. Even more annoyed I had to buy the roku to find that out.

Yeah, I bought my Roku specifically for crunchyroll and thought the lower playback quality was due to my old TV which only supported 480p. Then, I was really disappointed when I got a new TV and my crunchyroll experience did not improve. Maybe I'll just bite the bullet and get an AppleTV since its unknown when the new Roku app will become available and if it will even support 1080p.

It's worth it I was using my laptop but it seems like my laptop was always on lol. It was killing my battery life. I also stream CR on my droid and kindle fire. So far everything but the roku is good.
