Racism on the Live Feeds

Ugh. I was watching the live-feeds for the one in Rosemont for ACen. [I was actually there earlier that day] but I honestly haven't seen any inappropriate comments in regards to the people on the screen. But there was a Moderator for CR in an orange shirt telling people when the broadcast was over[the time] so I already thought that CR are already monitoring the screens.
I really wouldn't expect trashy insecure people, behind a computer, be part of the anime community making comments like a raging child on Call of Duty.

Just query the posts for a specific set of characters?

Its a real shame. I hope it doesn't discourage CR from doing them more often because they are really cool. Personally really liked dropping by the livestream and looking at cosplayers. Hope there isn't going to be any detrimental changes now.

I dunno if we can make suggestions that may help or not but a time limit before reposting on the livestream may help it calm down next time if there isn't one? Might give mods an easier time without being flooded by posts. Say like a 30second to a minute before you can post again on the livestream?

I never said that you were. Accepting it as a fact of life though, however, isn't going to get anyone anywhere. If everyone just chalked everything up to that's how x y z is, there would never be any change, just saying.

Quite frankly I'm sick of hearing phrases along the lines of "that's just life". So it's life for people to be crappy individuals? People need to stop turning blame to victims of rudeness and cruelty and that they "need a thicker skin", and turn to the aggressors. Making excuses for peoples crappy behavior is what keeps it going. There is no accountability because ya know what, that's just life - buck up. Screw that ideal.

This by no means is directed at you, I'm saying in general.

Ah, okay. Just wanted to make sure I didn't come off wrong. We're cool, then.
Though it sucks to hear it, it's pretty much how people are going to act that affects it. If racist idiots are going to continue being racist idiots, then that's just what's going to happen. Try as we might to change them. 99% of the time, our words will be blown off, if not fuel the fire further.
It sucks to think of it that way. But there will always be a group of people who hates another group of people for no reason.

As mentioned in prior posts - working on it.

Bjaker, what do you guys use as the chat applet for the livestream? Chat filters are easy to find or make.

it shouldnt be a premium only thing its unfair on the people who are not premium members i cant afford it right now and i enjoyed interacting with people on the stream its just there is to many people out there wanting to cause grief to other people. i like the idea of not being able to view the stream if the account has been say made the same day.

I agree, I don't think the rest of us "law abiding net citizens" should be punished along with the trolls. During one of the live feeds I was hoping there was a moderator on. I took trolls names down and re-posted them for the mods to have an easier time finding them and told the trolls to stop their asinine behavior. I also apologized to the cosplayers for the behavior of trolls, and told them to "Ignore the trolls, (compliment to cosplayer)." Please stick to trying to block certain words or something, and not punish the free users who respect the rules on Crunchyroll.

Also, I'm part of a minority group too. If they make live feeds exclusive, they'll also be punishing some of the people they're trying to protect along with the trolls.......the irony....

I sincerely apologize for any slight incurred.

There is no excuse we can make on our side, but what I can tell you is that we were the victim of a group of users who went out of their way to slander those attending the convention.

Our moderators were active in the live stream banning these individuals and doing our best to keep them from creating new accounts / continuing their attacks.

Our engineers are working on ways to make sure this does not happen again in the future.

Again, my sincerest apologies.

EDIT: Anyone who trolls this thread will be dealt with appropriately. Please think before you post.

Just make it a premium only feature to be able to post, people aren't going to pay money in order to get one line of trolling out when mods will be instantly banning them. That alone will stop any certain corners of the internet from raiding the chat.

trust me ppl would just do that .People pay mmos sub each month just to troll on forums.Since you need sub to post anything on forum.

I did not watch much of the live stream because of this very reason.
In the three minutes I watched part of the live stream I saw at least forty racial slurs and personal insults directed at the cosplayers and just had to turn it off.

I highly doubt they were real active members of these forums though since I have spent a long time here and genuinely believe the CR community is one of the nicest I have come across.

As the mods surmised it was probably a group of people from another site(4chan most likely, god I hate those assholes) using throwaway accounts to troll people.
Since it was a live stream it will likely be very hard to censor such things, but it is nice to know the mods are really trying their best to get rid of these people.

My first live stream here was very enjoyable. It was the first time I had seen live cosplayers and what an anime convention looked like. I will never get a chance to experience that in real life (they don't have that stuff here), and if they did, I don't know if I'd have the guts to go to one at my age. It was nice having the cosplayers sing "Happy Birthday" to me on my uber crappy birthday, getting them to sing "Oh, Canada" , and having them say "Hello" to my 4yr old made him very happy.

The 2nd live stream was ugly from the get go. Trolls were typing racial slurs, and insulting people about their weight. It was not the fun or pleasant experience at all for anyone on both sides of the feed. I don't know, but to me it just seemed like a bunch of teens looking for attention and shock value by trolling. After a few minutes (when it looked like the insults weren't going to end), I got off and decided to watch a show here and chat on the forums.

I enjoy the cos and quirky fun that the live stream provides its viewers. I hope crunchy can develop or use a third party stream app that completely hinders morons from influencing the fun and enjoyment of others. While they are working on the issue I hope they keep the con live stream going!!

I seriously doubt there are many racists on a site like this. As was previously stated, I am sure there were people from other sites coming and making a mockery of the livefeed.

Don't worry about Crunchyroll. Most of us here aren't prejudice or racist. We just want to have fun like everyone else. While we are a live and let live kind of group, there will always be some racist jerk somewhere trying to ruin everyone's good time.

it still comes to the conclusion that people have the safety of a computer screen instead of saying it directly , if you were to give them the same setting but face to face its guaranteed to be different. They know that they can say all this hurtful stuff and get away with it. Even if they get banned if they are trolls they will get back on. Also i feel as if most of them arent true fans of CR becuase most be people ive seen are nice and helpful, theirs moderated racism but they keep to themselves if its not a friend heir talking to.

I apologize you had to go through that. I always wondered why weren't there moderators assigned for that chat anyway. Even I did my fair share of saying silly stuff, but nothing offensive.

I would go with.
First, like someone already said, you have to have been registered a certain amount of time before posting on the live feeds.
If that doesn´t work.
Premium members can post normaly but everyone else will get their message reviewed before posted.
If that fail.
Filters out messages based on certain words, these messages would be reviewed and accounts could be banned.
If not even that works.
Dissable the comments until a good solution can be found.

The last one is a bit hard. But hey, if that is what it takes then I am all for it. And those that are to blame, if it goes down the censur line or even further, are the people that fail to understand that on the inside we are all the same.
