I'm a huge library user. I've been going to the library for years and have always had something checked out on my account. Libraries are a great way to check out a book/series you're not too familiar with. If it turns out you didn't enjoy it, you didn't have to spend any money on it. Granted, libraries have the issues of damaged/over used books or not having what you're looking for, but they're still great otherwise.

However, I do love having my own books as well, and have around 100 or so. These are ones that I've read and love or were gifts or were the next in a series that I already enjoy. However, I don't always have the money to buy every single book I want (if I did, I'd need another room with shelves lining every wall from the floor to the ceiling). Most of the time when I read my own books they're rereads since I already read the library copy, unless the book was given to me or it's the next book in the series.

Both have advantages and disadvantages and I will always be a supporter of libraries. And to give you an idea of how much I use the library, I currently have 48 books checked out. 45 of them are manga.

That's the way I am with the library xD
The book limit is 50. Every three weeks I check out about 40-something, at least half manga, and read them all xD
Library Addicts Anonymous, anyone~?

I have a fairly large collection of my own books (close to 500, many of which I found used), but I am also a big library user. I tend to use libraries for trying books by new authors and for non-fiction when I suddenly want to know about a random subject. At any given time, I have about two dozen library books checked out (I limit myself to a single shelf in my room for library books, because otherwise I would end up with way too many).

The limit at my library is 100, but I haven't even come close to that. I have a habit of picking up multiple series and checking out 3-4 volumes of each at a time. Unless I'm really into them, then I get more. I have the last 8 volumes of Red River currently checked out. What's frustrating is that I just got volumes 9 and 10 of the Sailor Moon rerelease, but volume 8 has yet to be processed, which is the one I need to read next. I could read it online, but I need to check the chapters.

I also love their request function. If they don't have what I'm looking for, I can request it for purchase. It's a surprised they haven't banned me from doing that, considering how often I do....

I know xD Whenever I'm out of reading ideas I'll grab the first 5-10 volumes of a bunch of random manga and see what's good. Except I'm running out of books at bother the local libraries xD

That's why I love being able to request! It's a little bit frustrating, especially since sometimes I'll request like volumes 1-10 and they'll order 1-7 and 10. What about 8 and 9? That has happened a few times and it's so aggravating.

I also hate when manga gets stolen from the library. This is a common occurrence and it's the most annoying thing ever. Literally, all but one of the 5 or 6 copies of Death Note volume 6 have been stolen. I've come across manga that has been colored in, has pages ripped out of it, or has images cut out of pages (if you've read the Naruto manga, you'd know what I mean when I say it's sexy girls that were cut out). Okay, so libraries aren't perfect, but I still save a lot of money.

I hate it when I get into a series after the first 2 or 3 volumes, and go back to find only 9 and 10. It feels like I wasted my manga time on something I won't get to finish. Or worse, when they start from like volume 7 and there appears to be no point in their stocking it. That's what online scans are for xD

I prefer my own books and enjoy building up my collection. However, I love libraries and borrowing books is a great way to test authors and save cash.

While I do love my libraries (town library and one I work at), they have almost no manga. The town library is part of a consortium, but none of the libraries have much manga. I've been able to find the first volume in a couple of series I wanted to try, but there's not much other than the really popular series. I am always slightly jealous of people who have libraries with large manga holdings.

My library has multiple branches, so that adds to the amount of manga they have. However, they mostly have either really obscure titles or really popular titles and are often missing volumes, even among all the branches. I know it's better than nothing, but it sure is frustrating. The only reason they have some series is because I request them for purchase.

My local libary needs more manga and to stop losing the manga it has or replacing missing copies.

I can tell you they're not "lost" they're stolen. It's not the library's fault. I agree about replacing missing volumes. So annoying when they have 1, 2, 3, 5, 8....

I don't use libraries much, though I do have cards for several. I prefer to buy my books, mostly just because I like to have a physical reminder of how much I've read. I don't read as much as I used to, so it's (for better or worse) fairly manageable right now. I expect if I start reading compulsively again like in the old days, I'll be forced to use libraries more simply because of storage concerns.
