I grew up in a household with a library of roughly 2000 books, so I've never needed to go to a library. That being said, I nonetheless checked out 3-4 books every week without fail from elementary until I graduated from high school.

Now that I'm moved out, my own library spans about 450-500 books/mangas/comics, but I tend to swing by my parents' house every few weeks to borrow a couple books from their collection (which probably figures around 3500-4000 now). They only buy books on sale, mind you, so sometimes you wait years for a complete series to be collected. T.T

So... maybe if my parents' weren't giant bookworms and collectors, I'd use the city library more often??

I prefer owning books for my collection, especially when the series or book is good because I tend to read series or books about 3 or more times if it is really good. I go to the library when I have no money to buy books though and don't mind not having the book in my collection or I just can't wait anymore to buy the book for my collection, so I just go to the library and get the book if it is there.

i like to do both, but I prefer library books unless it is a work I adore. I don't like having my space filled with physical media I will so rarely use, and I feel there's a better social utility in having works available to the general public.

I like my visits to libraries just to indulge in any sort of reading while owning my own I can go back to them more readily. Both are well worth doing.

Both.
The library is a good place to read good books.
If I like the books I read in the library I'l purchase my own copy.

Books are a lost art nowadays.... I prefer to own my own books, never know what is crawling in the books at the library (do those still exist?)

though recently I buy more e-books for my kindle

I always prefered having my own books, being able to hold them in my hands and smell the typical book smell (not weird at all ) But I also enjoy being in a library as I can't afford all of the books. I mostly borrow from the library or read books there that I wouldn't buy immediately.

I tend to check out non manga books from the library. I prefer to buy manga myself. I also buy non manga books for myself too, but I lke the library when I am not sure if I want to buy a book or not. The library is also helpful for discovering new books and manga.

I should qualify my earlier praise of libraries by saying that when I donate some anime to the public library I was annoyed to find they just turned around and sold them. To clarify, the DVDs weren't hentai or ecchi, but just obscure, mediocre stuff.
