The fact that it is legal, streams at high quality, has a very small delay between the show airing and being uploaded is what drew me in. I have used plenty of sites over the years to watch anime but the more organized they are the better. I am happy with how CR is now, though tbh I only found CR about two years ago and wasn't too big a fan at the time, don't know why

Membership fees

Not to mention, you couldn't resist buying a membership because the badges were awesome.

Give me back my Faye Valentine badge, my Claire Claymore badge, Rei badge, and Misa Misa badge.

Now, it's just a freaking star that you can change its color whenever you please.

Onigiri magazine was okay. You just had to be the "it" back then.

The undying community of "otaku/drama/music" lovers is one of they key factors why it didn't shut down back in the day. Most of you guys don't remember, how crunchyroll used to have videos of music thingy's and tv shows. From any sort of genre ( Kpop , Jpop and Movies ) which is what I stayed for.

I remember , we had groups of people devoted to crunchyroll just for music. Users would upload their maple story AMV's and clips from their favorite anime into songs they liked. Where people could share interest in artist and music PV's. When CR went legal , all random music uploads were removed. Making the majority of them all leave which is a shame. =[

i'll edit this more later ,since I'm on my phone . @__@ but the music category in crunchyroll was huge and I could say evened out the field with anime/drama lovers. Anyways , with all these devoted groups into CR people didn't want to move anymore. Increasing in size every year and making it what it is today.
