The family members I actually talk to don't really understand anything I try to explain to them be it anime, video games or anything else I'm interested in. But they try and they're more than accepting even though they don't personally get it. I guess I'm just lucky.

The few friends I do talk to about anime about funnily enough, have pretty different tastes than I do and/or don't watch anime as often. So it can be difficult to get them to watch a show so we can talk about it. It's just nice to have someone to converse with about the things you like or don't like and exchange thoughts. I find hearing other viewpoints is not only interesting but helps me analyze things better and even notice things I might not have before which gives me an even better appreciation for the content.

It's really hard to try and get someone to watch a show and explain why I like it so much without spoiling the awesome stuff. But, at the end of the day if they don't want to watch it it's no skin off my back, because well, I enjoy it and that's all that matters.

As for the people that just don't understand anything about anime and things like that, chances are if they think oh it's just for kids or whatever they're either uninformed or closed minded. If it's a matter of being uninformed I'm more than happy to try and explain to someone why it's awesome. If they act closed minded about it and what not, well.... the conversation would probably end there and I really wouldn't care because it's not worth my time to try and convince someone who has no interest in even trying to understand.

Heh heh. I just set them up with Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood and that seems to do the trick for both my family and a handful of friends

I live in NYC. I think there is a very small fraction of people here who doesn't know what anime was and is.

My mom watched Dragonball Z when I was 8-10 years old and loved Piccolo.

The ghetto kids couple hoods over know exactly how to reference some anime and still be hardcore.

It's hard to imagine that anime still isn't as widely accepted considering some popular musical "artists" have sampled from various anime. Then again, haters would always say they did it first......

I hate ignorance.

Kinda...
For my classmates and friends, I usually say "Imagine Chocolate Covered Ice-Cream being offered to you by God. And your sitting by the beach quietly relaxing. Now, add monsters and zombies into the scene. God takes his leave and doesn't save anyone BUT, he gives you super powers and you save the world." People usually give me a face of confusion and a face of saying that i'm crazy, then take their leave.

After a couple of years of telling everyone who asks, this year somehow everyone is into it.

For my family...
They just accept me for liking it. They don't question me. I get my own money, I can (mostly) do what I want with it. Though, my sister sometimes bugs me for liking 'Cartoons'. I just tell her its not cartoons and that it has a plot l instead of most cartoons of having a new plot an episode then a plot through-out.

EDIT: Some stupid grammar mistakes that I made >.>

It's either succeed or crash and burn with this subject for me. T,T
Either they think it's something they'll try or they're like "That's hentai, right?"
I don't even want to try anymore. Will never even try to get my parents to like it due to a certain parental unit claiming the it is "evil" without ever even picking up a title to go off of.
I have had success once. ONCE! My little sister and that's it.
Thanks to anime, she's become a far more open minded individual. Anime does that to you.
