12 Kingdoms!

It's an incredible anime based off incredible light novels with ACTUAL character development, intricate plot set in a high fantasy world, action, adventure, a great cast of characters, and a story that is told by different people from all walks of life! Great music and good animation along with a great dub cast.

It's only unpopular 'cause no one knows it exists! What a bloody shame when crap like moe and SAO is so popular.

Defiantly Gosick because it was the first anime I watch by picking it rather than suggested from a friend.

Probably C – Control – The Money and Soul of Possibility. I thought it was one of the most amazingly unique shows I've ever seen in my life, but I never see other people talking about it. Maybe it was just a little too weird.

- Time Tondekeman: it's educational and it has a western vibe that makes me forget it's anime. The opening and ending OSTs hooked me also. You got a silly kettle as a time machine, a Haruno Sakura-like protagonist, a kid that has amazing soccer kills, a stupid prince, a gullible yet pretty princess, and one oblivious GIANT of a genie.

- Mojacko: childish, silly, and cute

- Magic Knight Rayearth: girl power with odd drawings.

- Yaiba: It's a kid who wields a sword. He took a journey to obtain orbs with different powers. As he went on, he's not the only who had a sword and desired power-wielding orbs.

Speaking of unpopular, it's hard to find and watch a complete episode listings (w/ subtitles or dubs) of these animes online.
Most of them were made in early 90s, I believe.

It seems to be ranked fairly well on MAL as well; I'm just not sure what else from my list I could mention.

I've got a bunch of niche or lesser known anime, but nothing I think I'd call genuinely unpopular. Unless I could pick a specific arc from within an anime, in which case I'd say the Endless Eight arc from The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi.

I will admit to watching this. It reminded me a bit of Mayo Chiki.

Cuticle Detective Inaba. This anime is not very popular, I think because you really need to watch a lot of anime beforehand to get the parody and references.
Like for instance, there was a koala that's a villain in prison (I think that was a parody of One Piece), and it was just so hilarious to me. The Koala was acting all badass and shit despite looking so adorable.

Flowers of Evil. A lot of people dislike this, and I can see the reasons why they would hate it. But for some reason, everything in that anime (including the animation) makes sense to me. It's like a "love at first sight" sort of thing. I immediately formed a connection with the anime and its world.

Mushibugyo. This anime is receiving a lot of negative criticisms. I don't blame the audience, I mean, initially I though the anime was one of the worst animes ever made. But after 2 episodes, the anime really developed its characters and conversations have more depth.
The first two episodes were really stupid, generic and the big boobed side character did not help at all.

If not well known counts as unpopular, then my choice would probably be Soranowoto. I liked the story progression and the message it gave, along with the nice music.
