I really enjoyed Needless and Kaze no Stigma, I've never really seen anyone who talks about them at all.

I don't know if it's unpopular or not, but it's called Welcome to the NHK. It's hilarious. I guess it's considered ecchi, but it all plays in with the story line, and a very human thing when it comes to men loving porn. (HEH HEH.) I'm also a sucker for romance of any kind.

I don't think people dislike Welcome to the NHK at all. I loved it lol such a good story and it was completely original tbh I couldn't expect most of the things that were gonna happen. Which is why I like it.

On to the show I like that people seem to hate. Elfen lied was amazing and everyone hates on it :(. And I thought Tenchi Muyo gxp was better than any of them. And people just think it is a dumb spin off even though it is a spin off, it isn't dumb :(.

Ultra maniac because i love the storyline and the characters in it. It also has to deal with magic and romance which I think makes it interesting

I've got a bunch of niche or lesser known anime, but nothing I think I'd call genuinely unpopular. Unless I could pick a specific arc from within an anime, in which case I'd say the Endless Eight arc from The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi.

Ah yeah, I agree with this. Admittedly eight whole episodes may have been a tad excessive compared to the original prose or even the manga, and it was probably more annoying for those who actually watched it a week at a time as it aired, but I honestly don't think it deserves all the intense hate it gets. People seem to forget about the whole other half of series 2 due to this, too

I have spoiler'd my thoughts on this, as it is off-topic.

Now I will list out the anime that I feel never gets any mention that I love complete with links to their anime info page and CR link if it's available here...

Sasameki Koto
http://myanimelist.net/anime/6203/Sasameki_Koto/pic&pid=16941
http://www.crunchyroll.com/sasameki-koto

I can't possibly bring myself to understand how this anime doesn't get a lot of attention from rom-com fans. It's a Yuri, yes, but it is so unbelievably cute. Just the right amount of comedy, and through out the series it just tugs at your heart strings for the main protagonist. An engaging play out between two girls who have different kinds of difficulties either understanding or expressing their feelings.

Minami-ke
http://myanimelist.net/anime/2963/Minami-ke

The info I linked is to the first series, but there are a total of four 13 episode series, and 2 OVA's. It's a slice of life comedy centered around 3 sisters that I feel never gets mentioned despite the fact that it's adorable to watch and really has all the elements of a good slice.

Soranowoto
http://myanimelist.net/anime/6802/So_Ra_No_Wo_To
http://www.crunchyroll.com/soranowoto

It was mentioned early but this is an actually engaging slice of life with actual themes in it. The main cast is part of a platoon in the military so if that's any indication of how that is possible...It also packs a huge punch nearing the end instead of just fizzing to a halt like any other slice of life. The characters are utterly adorable (Kana...omg). There's quite a bit of emotion in this series despite it squarely falling in to the slice of life genre.

GJ Club
http://myanimelist.net/anime/14811/GJ-bu
http://www.crunchyroll.com/gj-club

Never see this anime mentioned despite it being one of the funniest anime of the winter season...

Tari Tari
http://myanimelist.net/anime/13333/Tari_Tari
http://www.crunchyroll.com/tari-tari

This is a heart-warming anime. Tids and bits of comedy meshed in but mostly it's an anime you watch for that feel good-ness. A girl who wants to pursue music but unfortunately has to deal with the concern and pressure of adults who think she shouldn't.

Nichijou
http://myanimelist.net/anime/10165/Nichijou
http://www.crunchyroll.com/my-ordinary-life

Do you like comedy in your anime? At all? Ever? Stop reading this...right now. Go watch this. You will regret every day you did not have this in your "watched" list.

Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!
http://myanimelist.net/anime/14741/Chuunibyou_demo_Koi_ga_Shitai!

This anime is so cute it's unbearable. Exceptional animation (some of the best in the business), unique characters, an engagingly cute romance...you can't not love them all. It even has action (albeit imagined action)! It tells the story of a guy who is trying to move on from being a nerd in his middle school days, but meets a girl who is every bit as nerdy as he used to be (think main character from Oreshura type nerdy, persona and all). She gets thrown in to his high school life, forcing him to come to grips with himself and learn about not being ashamed. Lots of great drama comes hinged with this one.

Then there's anime that is talked about occasionally but gets foreshadowed by others in their respective genre or other anime produced by the same studio...

If that doesn't say a lot about the failure of this obvious social media experiment, I don't know what does.

Everybody understands the point behind it. It setup the exposition for the movie. Everybody understands that we were meant to be annoyed in order to empathize with Nagato. Why is this ok, though? We don't watch shows to get annoyed. If I wanted to annoy myself I'd go attempt to solve my rubix cube for 5 hours (yeah I'm not one of those method solvers who can do it in minutes), not watch what is supposed to be an enjoyable 23 minutes of anime with humor and comedic inner monologue from Kyon.

They took a risk. They wanted to try something different, so respect in that regard, but it's pathetic to pretend that just because they did something different that they succeeded in creating a good product. Sure, they succeeded in creating some of the most annoying content in the anime world, but is this a good thing? This is what will stunt the progression of anime as a whole, to not bring to the attention of the people who did this that this kind of crap is just unacceptable from any point moving forward.

Oh, sure, I agree it was a flop - a good seven spare episodes which could have been spent animating Snowy Mountain Syndrome, The Melancholy of Mikuru Asahina et al. got wasted... Not to mention that the site I first watched them on had the order wrong, making the anti-climactic ending to the arc come before its end, apparently, thoroughly confusing me

I just don't agree with people who flame the whole second series because of it, apparently forgetting that The Sigh and Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody were perfectly good adaptations and instalments to the anime, not to mention being essential for the set-up of the awesome Disappearance movie in the case of the latter

Oh it was ludicrous, don't get me wrong. But in a kind of abstract way that makes it all the more amazing. It's the sort of event that becomes a landmark of sorts in anime culture, so in a weird way I almost wish we had more things like it.

Although, not too many...

And I also really like Minami-ke.

And I agree on Requiem for the Phantom and Minami-ke.

Also, Mouryou no Hako (horror/mystery), Book of Bantorra (intricate plot, fantasy/adventure), Seirei no Moribito aka Guardian of the Spirit (is this unpopular?), Guin Saga (epic adventure/fantasy), Mermaid Saga/Mermaid Forest (horror/action), Jyu Oh Sei (sci-fi?).

I like The Book of Bantora as well!

Ever watched Saiunkoku Monogatari? if you liked 12 Kingdoms, you might like this as well.

I guess it's just a testament as to how insanely popular and significant Haruhi is that it caused such mass outrage

I can't imagine anyone who wants their favorite series dragged through the mud.

In another sense, this is a big reason people dislike dubs to their favorite anime.

Yeah Although funnily enough, Haruhi is the one and only dub I do prefer

Cool

I have tried Saiunkoku 1st episode before, I vaguely remember the reverse harem-ish romance introduction put me off a little. Maybe I was too rash for judging it based on just that, gonna try it again. Thanks.

I suppose for me it would be:
1. Ichiban Ushiro no Dai Maou
- I can see why people might not like this one, because it is COMPLETELY male focused, and heavily ecchi. I think the characters are entertaining though, I especially like Hattori Junko, and I think the main character is pretty awesome. It was a really fun series for me to watch, then again I like all the ecchi anime cliches.

2. Melody of Oblivion
- The atmosphere of this anime was just great, it had that whole surreal type of feeling with like odd sub-arcs filled with morals and what not. I especially liked how it ended though.
