What with the recent and obvious forum reorganization underway, this might already be somewhere in your plans, but just in case it's not...

For a long time I've been thinking it would be nice if there were a single place to go to see a list of all the show-specific forums that are active. It seemed you could only get to them by going to the show page and clicking on the Forum link (unless it was one of the most popular few). Just yesterday I discovered (or rediscovered) that in fact you can do this by clicking on the "By Series" link in the horizontal menu on the Forums page. This gives me exactly what I wanted.

The problem is, it's practically invisible there. I've been overlooking it for months! Since everything else on that menu is also a forum category listed on the Forum page itself (General, Entertainment, Lifestyle, Creative, Help!) , it would be consistent to also have the "By Series" link as part of the main menu.

However, a problem with that is that the link doesn't just include anime and drama show series (as "By Series" implies--it includes music, and games, and...cars (which we no longer even have a specific forum for). So, maybe this should be labeled something else (though I don't know what and I certainly don't know what to do about that Top Gear entry under Cars)--unless CR doesn't actually want to encourage use of those forums and is trying to phase them out or something.

My other suggestion, though it lacks the "consistency" mentioned above would solve the problem of these show/whatever-specific forums being hard to find. Right now the most popular of these forums are listed under a related category. For example, on the main forum page you can see a link to Shugo Chara right under Anime, and if you click into Anime you also see direct links to Vampire Knight, Naruto Shippuuden, and Naruto. But there's no indication that any other show has a special forum. The same is true for Asian Drama, Console Gaming, and Music. Would it be possible to expand on this by adding a "More" link that goes to the appropriate section of the page the "By Series" link goes to?

Wow. You're already addressing some of the stuff that I was going to address in a week or so. "LAWL"
(Was waiting until the MOD applications and changes were done. Also, I am so busy with organizing my gigs to get the time organize my claims.)

The main reason why it was split like that because of the rampant activities of too many Naruto and Bleach in the past. In all honesty, that activity pretty much staved off as time past; it isn't even 1/32 as it was. I was going to suggest that they let go of the "By Series" forum section all together along with a lot of the Library stuff to make room. To remedy this, they should just centralize those series in the "Anime" section to try and gain some steam with some of the activity rather than just putting them at a dead zone.

If you looking at the patterns of the forums, those series sections are really really slow on the activity that it's kind of off turning to post in them in the first place.

Yeah, it really depends on where CR wants to take things. On the one hand it might be the intention to let them die out, considering that recent activity seems low, and have the Anime forum absorb them. But if not, then make them easier to find. For me, I guess, it's a matter of consistency--and not a super high priority. I don't feel strongly one way or the other. Just, if CR is encouraging them (which is implied, intentionally or not, by some of them being called out in those links above the main forums) then may as well incorporate that more thoroughly. And if not, then maybe make them "disappear" more thoroughly.

It isn't so much on where CR wants to take things but where things ended up because of the site's market shifts- basically adults paying for Anime rather than a bunch of people just here for the "free content".

The "Library" wasn't such a bad idea back when when the site had loads of content and being as some kind of a replacement to maybe things like ANN descriptions or Wiki entries, but it didn't really ran as a whole when it was made a whole because the legal shift was around that time that it kind of launched to try to compete. Additionally, it was kind of obscure. Now, you can't even find it.

Now for shows to be in their own sections, look at the following:

As you can see, that's kind of hard to see. Most, if not always now, things posted there are dead on arrival. There's not much activity there so not much discussing.

Even if they are easier to find, like the Vampire Knight, Naruto Shippuuden, Naruto, and Shugo Chara! on top of the "Anime" forum section, they are pretty dead too.

I'll go with:
- Lose the garbage library content and leave only content being showed here
- Lose the series by sections because they are dead and obscure

Will this help generate activity? Maybe since such threads won't be re-routed to dead zone.
Will this make things cleaner? Definitely.

Of course these thing are not super high priority as oppose to the main course of this site like simulcasts and video content, but I do believe that the crunchyroll forum and community can gain some of its sexiness back that it can fiscally gain from these site subsections, which is and was always the point.

Now that crunchyroll has gotten a bit more stable, right now seems to be the right time to address some of these things and to maybe start working on them.
