I read some volumes of Happy Mania - didn't read more 'cause I wasn't into it, but BOY am I GLAD I didn't stick around for that shit ending! What an awful, awful way to end the series. I think perhaps since it is a Josei manga she wanted a "realistic" ending. Too bad it fell completely and utterly flat - what an EPIC FAIL.

If you want a great but bittersweet Josei manga, I suggest Honey and Clover. Warning: the ending may upset you (I personally loved it).

OMG YOU KNOW OF IT!!!!!!

YES DONT EVER CONTINUE READING IT FOR REAL!!

And I have heard really good things about Honey and Clover. Maybe i should read itttt.

Yeah, unfortunately I know of it >_>

But I do highly recommend Honey and Clover. Both the anime and the manga - excellent series.

Another great series that ended abruptly and prematurely would have to have been Hikaru no Go, grew up reading the series. But the ending killed it for me.

The ending to Dance in the Vampire Bund annoyed me because it didn't really end. It just kind of ended in what felt like the end of an arc and the sequel skips ahead seven years because reasons. It's especially annoying because there were a few things thought to be impossible that happened int the final arc that no one even comments on.

I still love the manga, though, and it's easily one of my favorites. It'd be neat if CR could get the rights to the new one so I'd know when new chapters came out.

Shinigamisama ni Saiga no Onegai wo... The author leaves out the concluding chapter, and expects readers to figure out who the killer was, as a means of being different than other manga. It's been four years, and nobody has figured out who the killer was; myself included. That's easily the worst ending in the history of manga.

This, as soon as I read the title of this thread I though t about it, i mean why the hell couldn't he just finish it like normal and instead make the readers figure something out that doesn't even have enough info, he could at least make an extra chapter or a short novel and publish it so that we can actually know who the killer was.

Without going into specific detail on any particular manga, my observation is a bad ending happens when the mangaka or publisher have no clear idea of where the story is heading.

I agree with Daosx in this case; Ken Akamatsu pens fantastically chaotic stories that have train smash endings. Both LoveHina and Negima turned into crazy, fantastical stories towards the end, and left me really unsatisfied.

And School Rumble...man, I loved that manga but the scarring from the final volume still hurts.

I pretty much always hate how CLAMP ends their work. There has never been a very good 'closed' CLAMP ending, as far as I'm concerned; they always botch it when they're winding up to it and tend to ruin any enjoyment I got out of the story up to then.

But to be honest, there are many stories, manga and otherwise, that do that. In manga, especially popular manga, it ends up that the author doesn't typically know until almost the last minute that they have to tie up everything. So to be fair, it's not always the fault of the writer that they have to try and find a way to end a series with very little time altogether.

I find the most fulfilling endings to be ones that are more open, rather than trying to tie everything up. Or even just ending with just another chapter, rather than feeling the need to bring the story towards any particular end. I'm fine, most of the time, with things just continuing on as they were and imagining the same for the characters. I'd always rather have no ending per se than a bad ending, because with no concerted ending I can just use my imagination, whereas with a bad ending, it usually makes me feel negatively towards the series itself and can sometimes completely ruin any enjoyment I got from it.

I honestly don't care about characters being shoved together in some unlikely 'romantic' liaison or, worst of all, marriage -- please don't end a story with a marriage, for pity's sake. Although ending it with the death of a main character is just as slipshod. Maybe it's because I grew up with the stories where a kiss or love confession is the standard ending, but I'm so tired of those. I'd just like something that tells a story and doesn't feel that need anymore. It would also be nice if authors would have enough respect for their characters and audiences not to kill a bunch of characters off in a desperate bid to be 'serious'. Because every character is someone's favourite character, which I think bears remembering...

..... Then many others due to them not being released or translated. D: I really dislike the rushed manga endings. Especially when they have potential in the future.

I felt like the last chapters of 'The World Only God Knows' (Kami Nomi zo Shiru Sekai) were really rushed; I would've loved it even more if they had cleared the history behind...
, and some frames without any dialog of ...

Probably not the worst manga ending, but neither the best one. It was a nice ride in the 'feels-train', though.

There is School Rumble Z to help with the burn somewhat... but not much. It was kinda like pouring a cool liquid on a burn only realize too late that it still burns after the cool feeling goes away.

Sora no Otoshimono. Had a reset to zero ending then just provided no closure on anything.
