I live in Iowa. When I go out of state and I tell people I am from Iowa they always think I am a farmer. They get surprise when I say I live in the city.

What state do you live in and what do people think about your state and/or what are common misconceptions do people have about your state? If your not from the USA, what do other people think about your country?

Side note. Using speak to text software. I meant Think*. I have an injured hand at the moment.

I live in South Texas. Everyone online automatically pictures a dumb hick that fucks his sister and rides horses wears cowboy boots and hat.

I'm from New York.

Exactly what every single one of you thought "Oh, New York City sounds fun!"

Cept I'm 6 hours away from NYC :P

And once I say that they get more confused and imagine NYC is the only large city in NY. They completely forget about Buffalo & Rochester

I'm from Michigan.

Everyone online usually says something like "Oh, Michigan sounds cool" or "Wow, you probably live in Detroit huh? That sucks."

Michigan isn't all that great and I live an hour from Detroit.

SoCal. Best place on earth and I never plan to move away from here. When people hear I'm from California they automatically assume that I know how to surf. Only like a fourth of people down here surf and no I am not one of them

Nobody has ever seemed to have a misconception, or any thought at all for that matter, about Ohio.

I'm from Colorado. I love it here!
Contrary to popular belief, not EVERYONE is high....at least not at the same time... haha! I don't really know what people think of Colorado. I've heard some people think Colorado is like the old west, but that was just one person haha!

When I say I'm from New York they automatically think I live in NYC, although I've never been to the city.

At least you actually live in SoCal when they make that misconception. Whats really funny is that is often the misconception made about people who live anywhere in California. As I lived in NorCal for the majority of my life, when people would ask whether I go to Disneyland on the weekends after telling them exactly where I live I always wanted to ask them if they had ever looked at a map of the United States in their entire lives, and if they did do they ask people in Colorado and New Mexico whether they visit Disneyland as well.

Maybe its just people from smaller states that are used to being able to cross their state in a few hours and don't stop to think about how much distance California covers from North to South. LA is fairly close to Mexico, but where I lived I was just about as close to Canada as I was to Mexico

Well yeah, so have I. But I've only been there twice unless I went there when I was real little and don't remember. I was specifically referring to the people that think that think that if we get bored on the weekend we can take a quick drive and go there whenever we feel like it, as if it was in our back yard.
