I've been a lifetime resident of Tennessee.
I plan on moving to the Los Angeles area with my girlfriend (Where she's originally from.) once we're both out of college. She relocated here to move in with me and neither one of us have any desire to stay longer than needed. I didn't mind the area much as a kid, but the older I am the more I can't stand it.

People assume it's comprised of hyper-conservative rednecks with a lust for the second amendment and confederate flags. In my area, that's very much correct. You don't see much of anything else.

There's much more diversity around the Nashville area, but I'm several hours away and nearly on the TN/GA border.

I'm from Michigan.

Everyone online usually says something like "Oh, Michigan sounds cool" or "Wow, you probably live in Detroit huh? That sucks."

Michigan isn't all that great and I live an hour from Detroit.

I didn't mind it there. I was born in Flint and spent a lot of time in Grand Blanc & Fenton mostly but had a pretty heavy sense of home especially when I started being able to go to mt. holly every winter. Honestly I little issue with my home there except for a lot of mundane spirits about living there.

I know this was a post from forever ago, but, same.

Everyone's like "Oh my god, do you guys actually have tumbleweeds and horses and stuff?"

And I'm just like... "What? Pffft."

When others think of Wisconsin they think of fat people, and cheese heads ( google it if you don't know ); both are more or less true.

Someone has actually asked me before if people in Alabama wear shoes.

Over the internet. Which I was accessing by means of a computer and a broadband connection. At first I thought they were trolling but then I deduced that they were merely extremely sheltered.

I usually just hear people commenting on the Winters, about whether it's great or horrid to usually have alot of snow. Also, I've met folks who have fits over the Civil War, so they harshly judge all of the states that were once a part of the Union. Oh, and one person online has deluded himself into stereotyping Pennsylvanians as mean people.

I've never left my state, but when I tell people I'm from Canada in games I'll get the usual Canadian stereotypes sometimes. (Pet polar bears, riding polar bears to school / work, everyone lives in igloos, everyone says eh, etc.)

Pennsylvania.
Not sure if there any real stereotypes for the state other than 'redneck', but it does make sense because there are a lot of those here...

I live in Oregon. Everybody thinks it rains all the time in my state, and it does rain quite a bit on the coast and in the Willamette Valley, but two-thirds of Oregon is actually desert.
