It strains itself at a 6/10. The graphics and sequences where all there, world class in fact Almost every element present for good story telling, but it was way too choppy. Plus lets be honest this is the guy involved with The Watchmen, one of the few films I have ever walked out on in my entire life. Somebody who compares this to Batman Begins is crazy. Begin’s has such an emotional element that quickly outclasses this film by leaps an bounds. Almost half the audience at my theater where upset. No character investment, Ms Lane falls suddenly in love with superman, and delivers a cheesy one liner kiss scene, I have seen more depth in an evaporating 2 inch puddle in the sun. The intangibles where all missing and its frustrating to be that close yet somehow miss the mark. This film is like Iron Man 3, it might be a commercial success but it has some serious cracks in the story. Cough…NO FREAking Mandarin, and then make joke out of it? The one thing I am grateful for is the introduction of Krypton’s home world, which you can see some real effort. But huge detractors are SPOILER ALERT:::::::: NO FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE. Are you kidding ME? Mr Kent Dies in a Tornado while Clark watches…..are you kidding ME? His parents, especially his father show much more elements of fear/not caution which then reflect in Clark’s character…are you kidding ME? Clark has a transient stage that mimics BAtman Begins=lame copy….ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Superman has been soaking up the sun for 30 years and all the Kryptonians are just as strong as him when they arrive within two days…..ARE YOU KIDDING ME. Zod is a military man so there is some credence of technique over brute strength…but still. This movie tries to show to much and ends up showing to little. Pacing was a huge issue for me. Miss Lane needed more time in a relationship and less time saving the world. Her and Clark’s relationship has the least meaning and depth I have ever seen in a Superman film. She is supposed to be one of his anchors….what we met three times and we love each other…that was amazing=sarcastic The sad bit is that I like Superman more than Batman, but Batman Begins is an infinity better film. I watched this at my New RPX theater which was amazing. That’s what I take away from this experience is that I can watch other premiers at this new facility. I can just give up on every seeing The Justice League which is even more upsetting considering that it possesses much better Character material than The Avengers. Superman needed to be that catalyst and I just don’t see it happening now.

By experience i learn never to expect anything from a superman movie. Or any movie based on comic books for that matter, it makes it less disappointing.

I tried to manage my expectations after I heard that Mr Watchman was involved. I went into the theater and was sitting at a default seven when I started out at an eight, well it quickly fell from that about half way through.

It was better than I thought it would be I will give it that. Out of 10 I would probably land it somewhere around 6 and 7. Draws a lot from the recent Earth-One graphic novel and a little bit from the Bryne reboot. I think it sets things up reasonably well and I think we can expect more from future films.

was kind of hoping for an After the Credits "Next Time" sort of hint but they didn't do one.

where can they go from here
-Lex Luthor: Someone has to repair the damage to the city and that LexCorp truck is a nice hint as to who. Also gives a nice set up for Luthor the Hero vs. Superman the threat.
-The Cyborg Superman: They did a nice subtle job of setting Emile Hamilton up to become the Cyborg.
-Build the Justice League: start working on the other films. New Batman movie, clean up that Green Lantern squeal (and do a better job of it than the first film), Aquaman, Martian Manhunter

and then go to Joss Weadon on hands and knees and beg him for that Wonder Woman Script he offered WB years ago.

The ruins of the city I think makes an excellent set up for Lex.
While the world might hail the alien as a hero, Lex can look clearly at the destruction he can bring.

It's up to him to protect the world from a threat no one else can recognize.

I can agree with you on most points, exept I gave it a 6/10 just because of how non convincing Superman himself was, maybe it was a combination of content and acting? All I know is I was not invested in the character at all. And the dark tone just felt wrong. It is a blatant copy of Batman, which is lame. Superman is supposed to be an eternal optimist and Batman the s skeptic, now there is no dynamic between the two where Batman is the cautious tone of skeptical reason and Superman always believing in people to a fault. That is GONE. Did they even think about character separation when they started this film, because you know Batman and Superman are supposed to share the same screen right? right? come on guys. From where I am standing Justice League is doomed to look like a copy of Avengers at this point. I really wanted to see Justice League…

Cons:

- Some fight scenes were too long and overused the wall smashing.
- Incoherent storytelling with the order of flashbacks.
- Lapses in logic. Krypton's destruction. The Tornado scene.
- Romance with Lois and Clark is far too early.
- General Zod hams it up too much in the intro (acting is better later though)
- Jonathan Kent. All of his scenes. Found him unlikable as he tried to add some confliction/moral dillemma that I never really bought.

Pros:

- Faora. Easily the best character in this movie. She had the best fight scenes and was chilling to watch.
- The Smallville fight scene. Most exciting battle I've seen in a while. CGI was implemented well here.
- Zod. An extremist villain, but we could sympathize with him (to a point).
- Superman wasn't all that bad. Neither was Lois.
- The scene with him flying up from under the machine. You know the one.
- Lighting. The lighting gave off a mature atmosphere.

I know a lot of my more comic book centric friends said it was either great or just boring/disappointing. I guess it all really depends on what you're expecting from the movie. I personally haven't seen it, nor do I actively read Superman comics.

But I always end up watching super hero movies, due to friends or family, so it's only a matter of time until I do. I don't have super high expectations for Man of Steel, so I suppose I'll end up enjoying the moving well enough.

I honestly think all the Super Man movies are just awful. I'll stick to the comics. He isn't my favorite superhero though.

Movie earns probs for not making cars/buildings not the only victims of a environment hostile to humans.

Building about to collapse on civilians? They die! Nothing is sugar coated in this movie and it is PG 13, as a bonus.

Better than the Avengers and how many stars did the Avengers get?
