Got through all of My Ordinary Life episode 8 with absolutely no problems, so it doesn't seem to actually be a network error. Same with episode 9 of Majestic Prince and Attack on Titan, as well as AoT episode 10.

I don't think I've had too many issues with the recent Watamote episodes, either.

Getting back to Gargantia episode 11, and other than the first skip just before the opening credits, there's another at 8:00 that jumps to 8:10, and again at 22:45 to 22:55. No issues during episode 12 or 13.

Fantasista Doll episode 1: 2:04 to 2:15; 8:51 to 9:01

Say "I love you"

Shugo chara

Ano natsu de matteru

Kimi ni todoke

Everything else (that I can think of) has already been mentioned. I'm sorry I can't provide specific episodes/times.

They prolly need to upgrade their servers and bandwidth... nice of them to take our 7 bucks and not use it to upgrade their servers when they expand their user base to include xbox/ps3/etc. All these extra devices and such seems to be taxing the site.

If that was the case, PC and PS3 users would also be experiencing this problem, and that certainly isn't the case.

Since a re-encode of the episode does seem to change the timecodes affected, that must have some impact. Is the Xbox app the only version that uses a variable quality for the video?

I am on a ivy bridge i5 PC with a radeon 7970 and a 30mbit connection. Currently cannot get ep 2 of rose maiden to play with out freezing every 10 seconds. Who says PC's are not getting this issue....

Sounds like a completely different issue to me. I don't know if that episode has the same problems on the Xbox app, though.

I know that the iOS version uses variable quality, but it uses different streams. Ditto for Roku, currently.
Can't test on PS3 as CR can't/won't release it in the UK, and getting a US PSN account requires jumping through a few hoops.
Browser version is "select your quality". Which, personally, I prefer as a method... but not enough to use a comptuer instead of an STB/console.

I'm not sure the variable quality makes too much of a difference. I think I get the skips in the same place regardless of quality. Without being able to force it to drop down to each level I have no way of checking for myself.

The re-encode did change the affected portions. Which leads me to think one of two things:
1 - There is something in the encode process that occasionally produces glitches that the Xbox app trips (jumps) over. Obviously, a re-encode would affect this as it would introduce the errors in a difference place.
2 - There is something about when it gets pushed out to and cached within the CDN that introduces the error in the cached copies. A re-encode would also affect this as it would be refreshing the caches with new versions of the content.

Knowing which it is, and what the errors are, is why the exact episodes and times will help the CR techies out a lot.
(As someone who works in University IT Support, I know how valuable detailed information about a fault is. Sadly, we techs are not psychic. The more we know about exactly where to look, the quicker we can get on resolving it. I assume that video streams are no different to photocopiers in this respect.)

Sadly, I'm just not watching as much CR this season. The more interesting shows weren't licensed for the UK, so I'm currently turning to gaming and Blu-rays for my entertainment instead of losing an evening to Crunchyroll.
That or (with an first episode of a show) by the time I've hunted down a YouTube clip that contains subtitles for the opening theme, I'm not in the mood (or have run out of time) to watch the episode.

Eccentric Family episode 2: 9:12

Silver Spoon episode 4: 2:05; "Server Unavailable" @ 3:36

Absolutely no issues with the first three episodes of Silver Spoon. Skipping past this message doesn't seem to help, as I just get another one a few seconds later.

Eccentric Family episode 3: 7:50

I've got these video issues occasionally on my Xbox too. Mostly, it skips around 10-20 seconds, and in the same place each time I try replaying it. I'll try to make a point of noting them down from now on.

So here's the first one:

Beast Player Erin ep. 15 - Skips somewhere in the 16:10 - 16:30 area and skips around a whole minute. When I tried rewinding and replaying the area, it skipped again, and THEN started giving me the "server not available" error.

Rest of the episode played just fine.

Another one:

Episode 12 of Nyarko-san: Another Crawling Chaos (first season.) Skips once near the end of the opening theme, probably around ten seconds. (I don't have a specific time, didn't get to check.)
And one near the end of the ending theme (at around the 22:10-22:15 mark), also skips around ten seconds.

Just to balance it out; I watched three episodes of other shows I'm currently working my way through, and detected no skippage there. So it's not all doom and gloom. ^^;;

Edit: Whoops. Sorry. The opening animation skip was in episode 11, not 12. The ending animation skip was in episode 12, though.

Sunday Without God ep. 7 - 10:15 - 10:25 (or something close to that.)

There was also one during the opening animation of Love Lab ep. 2, but I don't remember exactly where.

Free ep. 5 skippage: 14:04-14:15

Is it helping at all that I do this?

That's a good question. I stopped reporting the 10 second skips and just deal with it. Anything longer (saw a 90 second skip the other day) or resulting in a "Server Unavailable" message, I just report with the contact form.

I don't really have any issues with it if it happens during the opening or ending theme, but it's kind of annoying when it happens mid-episode, particularly during a conversation between characters. (As was the case with the Free episode.)

I figure they're useful to report, as it means they can look at exact examples. plus, they're useful for us viewers to know as it gives us an idea of what shows/episodes are likely to skip on Xbox.

Although, personally, I'm giving the Xbox app a break for now. I jumped through the "US Account" hoops to get the PS3 app and I have a Roku, which I'll use more when the new app get released.

I'm still interested in the Xbox app being sorted, though, as it means I don't have to change consoles or rooms if i feel like watching CR and playing Xbox games on the same day.

Howdy!

So, going forward with these, can you please do the following:

Shoot an email to us using the 'Contact Us' form letting me know the following.

Baker, episode X of show Y is skipping 10 / 20 seconds. Can you please try a manual re-encode of the video.

Thanks much!
-Baker
