I cannot, and will not, rely on the Xbox app until I know the app has been updated to remove these issues.

At least with the Roku update (hopefully) imminent I have a second box that can reliably stream CR content. But this is having the (unwanted) side-effect of forcing which box is on which TV. (I rotate my Xbox and PS3 between lounge and bedroom depending on what I want to play where)

its been a fairly long time since they released the app, you would think they got all this bullshit fixed by now .

Personally, I suspect it is at least in part a CDN issue. And it looks like the kind of issue that is one of those tricky to nail down faults. The ones where however much you troubleshoot, you either can't find a cause or can't find a solution. I run into these a lot.

The problem is the lack of ongoing feedback. No"we're still stumped". No "this is low on the list behind...". No details at all.

Bjaker is still pushing new encodes when issues are reported. Hopefully, the appdev and/or engineering team should still be working on a Root Cause Analysis.

I know, and having the episodes be fixed as-and-when is useful.

It's just that I can't watch on the Xbox whilst I'm always wondering if the episode is going to suddenly jump forwards ten seconds. And, especially for first-watch shows, when it happens it totally busts me out of the flow of the story.

I bought a Roku to get an interim stable stream (also to get CR viewable in both TV rooms). Only that now takes too long to buffer and the new app is still in development hell.
I jumped through the "register a US PSN account" to get the PS3 app, specifically to get a functional TV-connected stream working. And despite the fact that it's not officially available in the UK, it's the most function TV-connected CR app I've used so far.

I think a lot of my frustration comes from a combination of two factors.
Firstly, I'm a techie both by trade and by hobby/interest. I can tell that this is no simple issue. And I'm genuinely curious as to where the cause lies and what they're doing to try to fix it Call it "professional curiosity". Call it "enlightened impatience". But whatever you call it, the lack of information sort of burns me up. That and a lack of anything resembling a timescale. Even a "We are still stumped, no imminent solution" is better than this. And trust me, I use that one a lot at work when i genuinely don't know whats causing something. it shows that I'm working on it at the same time as stopping people expecting a same-day fix.

Secondly, my current choice of "what kit goes in which room" is being completely dictated by "what works with CR" with absolutely no indication as to when the Roku or Xbox apps will work properly. And, therefore, no clue as to when I can ensure that both gaming and CR will work in both lounge and bedroom. Not an issue during the summer month, but quite a different matter in winter.

I've also gravitated more towards my Roku in lieu of the 360 due to this issue.

I'm always so worried that those 5-20 seconds I missed could have had something important in them that I'm willing to sacrifice my ability to stream HD for the inferior Roku stream.

I like everything else about the 360 app, and it's really nice that it gets fixed so promptly case by case, but everything is still so incredibly inundated with these skips that it seems like it would be a nearly impossible task to ever fix up the entire catalog at this rate. Particularly since new uploads keep adding more of them.

Honestly it doesn't bother me all that much because I love my Roku and I stream on my PC a lot anyways. I mostly feel bad for the CR tech guys who are probably having a tough time getting a handle on this issue!

My personal problem is that the (current) Roku app doesn't stream. or, at least, it takes about 10 seconds before even looking like it's going to try buffering. Add to this, I only got the Roku because I bought it about a month or so before they announced the AppleTV app. (bad timing on my part) But until they get the new app up, I have a £50 doorstop and a console app that I don't even know what (if anything) they're currently investigating as to the fault.

There is a really worrying lack of updates regarding this issue.

People have been having problems since at least early this year. This thread dates back to June, but owing to the Help Forum changes, it's difficult to find when some of the earlier reports were.

The first hints of actually understanding the problem (re-encoding episodes to check) happened mid-to-late summer.

Since then, though, nothing. Certainly nothing regarding a long-term fix. I know investigating and fixing issues can take time. I know they're had new services (manga) and new platforms (PS4, etc) to deal with. But the silence gets frustrating.

Especially for those of us lacking the desire (or, more likely, the money) to be come early adopters for new consoles with no decent gaming back-catalogue, having the CR app on a system we already own and a service (two, technically) we are paying for.
Suffering a long-term bug that literally breaks you out of the story, without even a hint of whether it'll ever be fixed, really is annoying.

I'm sorry that you are so inconvenienced.

Without going into the issue. It's not simple to fix. It is known, and re-encoding the episode is NOT the answer, but for some reason works for resolving the issue.

It is being looked into, we are trying to fix it.

Here's what I speculate is going on:

During the skips there is some sort of background transition going on, maybe a server switch, or some network transition, maybe the video is being sent in chunks and wherever the break is, that's a chunk.

I guessing that problem comes in when it resyncs the video it thinks that it's further ahead then it suppose to be. I noticed that the fast-forward time is of by a few seconds. This makes me believe that the time the video is on and the time the app thinks it's on are out of sync.

Maybe a concurrency bug cause the times to go out of sync?

Anyway that's my totally uneducated guess.

Again, any network issues or switching to a different CDN server seems unlikely, since the issue seems so consistent, at least for each user. And the "chunk" explanation doesn't really make sense since I don't believe most video is packeted that way, but maybe the format for the 360 is odd that way.

In either case, speculating doesn't really help solve anything when we don't have access to the information that the eng/dev teams do, otherwise all we're doing is making wild guesses.

Personally, this is the problem. ;-)
(Albeit a personal one of sorts)

I am a techie by hobby and work in IT Support by trade. When something doesn't work, investigating it and trying to figure out what's going wrong is just a part of how I'm wired.

Plus, it has a few (albeit small) parallels with some of the sorts of faults I have to troubleshoot at work. So i find myself applying the same thought processes.

Having a big version of this problem on Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu (season 1) Episode 6. Approx 5:20 skips ahead to 5:44 -- rewinding to the middle of the skip still skips to 5:44, and rewinding back to as late as 5:15 or so will often lead to double-speed video and regular speed audio (obviously out of sync) I haven't been able to get that 20 seconds to play on the xbox at all.

I get this a lot (usually at least once per episode) but this is one of the worst cases I've seen since the rewind trick isn't working for me. I've also noticed that the timing will sometimes skip when switching between HD and non-HD streams, but that's less predictable than this issue.
