This is one of the biggest pet peeves I have about watching anime. You watch an entire series, only to find out that the manga is either ongoing or the show was given its own ending that in retrospect has no relation to the plot whatsoever.

That said, I'd like to establish an up to date list of anime that actually follow their source material.
This includes but is not limited to:
Manga
Light Novels
Visual Novels
Video Games
Dating Sims
etc. (if I missed any, let me know)

Here are the basic rules:

Any anime that follows the source material for the most part is allowed
Ongoing anime that are currently following their source material are also allowed
If an anime has either been cancelled or its season has ended, yet the show follows the source to said end point, that is also alright.
Please state the status of a show if possible when listing it.

Of course discussion of this matter is also more than welcome.
WARNING SPOILERS MAY BE IMMINENT!!!

THE LIST THUS FAR:
(I will try to update this regularly with all the series you guys post)

Ongoing Anime:
Anime that are still being produced that are following their source material for the most part (filler doesn't affect plot per say)

One Piece: (several filler arcs) Ongoing
Naruto: (1 year + worth of filler between both halves of the series) Ongoing
Attack on Titan: Ongoing
Sukitte Ii na Yo / Say "I love you": (anime only got through 27 chapters or so.) Ongoing
My Sister is Among them / Nakaimo: (not finished, did about 9/10 novels.) Ongoing
So I can't play H / Dakara boku wa H ga dekinai: (volume 14 just came out) Ongoing
Campione!: (novel 14 just came out) Ongoing
SNAFU / Yahari/ Oregaru novels: (6/7 novels done, OVA comming) Ongoing
Karneval (thus far is following source very well) Ongoing

Possibly Ongoing Anime:
Anime that may potentially have a new season but have followed their source material thus far.

Accel World: (Season 2 begins in the Fall?) Possibly Ongoing
Jojo's Bizarre Aventures: Possibly Ongoing
Sword Art Online: (Aincrad and Fairy Dance done) Possibly Ongoing
Problem Children are coming from another world aren't they / Mondaiji: : ( Anime finished first 2 novels, 7 are done, 8 comes next month with OVA.) Possibly Ongoing

Completed Anime: / Cancelled
Anime that have followed their source material with/without filler and are either completed or no longer in production.

D.Gray-Man (Anime ended with an open ending, manga is still ongoing) Completed well before End
Death Note (followed source very well) Completed
Sakurasou no Petto na Kanojo: ( Finished 6/10 novels, volume 10 comes out next month.) Completed
Toradora: (pretty much follows source) Completed
Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood: Completed
Full Metal Panic: Fumoffu/Second Raid: (based on first 3 novels + snippets and 2 other novels in series) Completed
Dragon Ball: (follows source with little filler) Completed
Dragon Ball Z: (Classic has some filler and many drawn out scenes, Kai does away with these though) Completed
Bleach: (several filler arcs. Manga is in its final arc) Cancelled Before Final Arc.

Jojo's Bizarre Aventures: (Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency are done with several improved scenes and a teaser for Stardust Crusaders) Possibly Ongoing

I was really surprised when i saw this was made into an anime back in october. What's more, it remained loyal to the source material so much i drooled. Sure there were scenes omitted due to censors (Danny's death) or Shortened (Some filler convos and happenings) But it was brilliant, especially with being so low budget.

Can't wait for Stardust Crusaders after David productions makes Neptunia.

There are a few rules I ask if you wish to contribute however:

Ongoing anime that are currently following their source material are also allowed

Now let's start this list off:

One Piece: (several filler arcs) Ongoing
Naruto: (1 year + worth of filler between both halves of the series) Ongoing
Attack on Titan: Ongoing
Bleach: (several filler arcs) Cancelled Before Final Arc.
Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood: Completed
Accel World: (season one ended with many unanswered questions) Possibly Ongoing

Accel World season 2 is in the fall.

I think i remember reki kawahara saying something about wanting to finish SAO before picking up accel world again. Most likely there will be a season 2 of SAO before Accel world.

Sword Art Online: (Aincrad and Fairy Dance done) Possibly Ongoing

Another one that stayed true to the source material with little filler. Though somewhat of a let down if you read the source.
Phantom Bullet and Alicization are the only arcs left to animate. And perhaps an OVA of Mother's Rosario

I don't remember who, but one of my friends had told me Sword Art Online wasn't following source or something like that so I never bothered with it. That's good to know that it does so. Though I'm a lil' curious what you mean by "a let down" if I read the source?

On a side note: Wow, my thread actually took off!

Good news if true, but I've seen nothing on this. Do you have a source?

Volume 2 that contained the side stories of the Aincrad arc were much more detailed and the Black cats of the full moon's demise was rushed as hell in the anime. in other words, i expected better.

Im going to hope that they at least not rush Phantom Bullet.

Toradora: (pretty much follows source) Completed

Full Metal Panic: Fumoffu/Second Raid: Completed
Season 1 follows the first 3 light novels of the series.
Fumoffu is based off snippets taken from the various light novels that can be turned into romantic comedy scenes
Second Reid is also based off one or two light novels in the series. (not sure if the novels follow the first 3)

Also, an oldie but a classic: Dragon Ball & DBZ: Completed
Kai series is closer to source but classic series works too, just has more filler.

it followed the light novels pretty well, with the exception of cutting out all the fine details and Kirito's exposition which provide some needed information and details in regards to the game systems and more character development.

I guess novels are included too:

Sakurasou no Petto na Kanojo: Finished 6/10 novels, volume 10 comes out next month.
My Sister is Among them / Nakaimo: Ongoing, not finished, did about 9/10 novels.
So I can't play H / Dakara boku wa H ga dekinai: Ongoing, not finished, novel 14 just came out.
Campione!: ongoing, anime well behind, novel 14 just came out.
Problem Children are coming from another world aren't they / Mondaiji: Anime only finished about first 2 novels, 7 are done, 8 comes next month with OVA.
Kokoro Connect: anime only did 4/10 novels. Novels are finished.

Honestly, I'd like to include anything that generally follows the source it's based off of. I just didn't know if that would be too overwhelming or not to put all in the first post.
But basically I'd say anything that follows its:

Manga
Light Novels
Video Game
Dating Sim (for the most part)

That's what I'd like to establish a list of.

Let me know if I missed any source types btw.

SNAFU / Yahari/ Oregaru novels: About 6/7 novels done, ongoing. OVA coming.

Death Note followed the manga almost to a tee.

D.Gray-man followed the manga.
Since the manga is ongoing they gave the anime an open ending
instead of just making one up, which I approve of whole heartily!

Durarara!!, though now that I think about it
I'm not really sure what came out first, the manga, anime or light novels.
I think I heard somewhere that they all came out at the same time but I don't know.
I do know that the manga and the anime are almost identical up to the point when the anime ends.

Karneval is currently airing and it's following the manga for the most part.
There are a few small things that have been left out but nothing major as far as I can recall.
