If we're talking best plot, then I can scratch just about every "shounen" anime out there- they never stick with the plot they begin with.
It's hard to think of one where the plot actually stays consistent, yet at the same time is entertaining...
I don't know... I'd probably pick Hataraku Maou-sama! -or something with a ridiculous plot like that.

which type of plot???

literally or figuratively?

figuratively... date-a-live and dog days
literally... damn, that's a toughie.. so many good ones. but I can guarantee that it won't go to a never-ending shounen.

if you bash one piece i'll join you XD

I can't really bash it, because I've never seen it.. but I'm definitely not going to make an attempt to watch it. I'm sure it suffers from the same problems all never-ending shounen suffer from, like a water-thin plot, billions of episodes of filler, long drawn-out plot that is long and drawn out just to be long and drawn out.. and the art is ugly as hell.

Yeah pretty much, it just hit a good time when it debut. Such a solid fan base >.>

Also kazuki is one of the manliest protagonists ever. Guys there is one single moment you can lie to your girlfriend right in front of her face and you are 100% in the clear.

Out of what I've seen recently Psycho-Pass is definitely up there for me.

Highschool DxD had some great "plot" though.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood had the most enthralling, consistent and satisfying plot for me out of any anime I've seen. In terms of the best ending specifically, however, I might have to say Angel Beats!, in terms of impact and memorability.

As for 'plot'... yeah, I could name a fair few. A couple which spring to mind due to watching them recently are Date a Live and Strike Witches... Both of these have a surprisingly entertaining actual plot, too, though

This is fucking difficult; every time I think I have an answer I undermine it with counterexamples. So I need more time to decide. But the five I'm kicking around right now are Neon Genesis Evangelion (including The End of Evangelion), Texhnolyze, Cowboy Bebop, Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica, and Berserk.

That said though, everyone who said Steins;Gate reminded me that I still have to watch that show, and I have time right now so I looked it up. Funimation has it on Youtube, so that's convenient. But the first 45 seconds of the first episode literally screamed "I AM THE SPIRITUAL SUCCESSOR TO SERIAL EXPERIMENTS LAIN." That's... wow.

That's a really high bar to set for yourself Steins;Gate. Don't disappoint me. After that it's your fault if you do.

I generally try to go into things like this ignoring the hype but if you're going to hype yourself I will crucify you if you fail.

FMA Brotherhood or Madoka Magica. Neither one wastes time in getting to business, and their plots are equally impressive for their lengths.

Also, I personally liked the plot of Higurashi a lot. Maybe its because I wasn't expecting there to be any plot, but I couldn't see any of the plot twists coming at all. Very convoluted show.

As for the people saying One Piece, I say no. The plot is really overrated in my opinion, it's simply an enjoyable show. There's too much wasted time, too many characters with little to no development, and the show's progression is just too slow. Cut out all the fluff, fat, and filler, and you'd have a masterpiece. That's what sets the picks above apart: I can't think of a moment in each that you could take out of the show and still have the same experience.

Steins;Gate is boring at first, fyi. Don't expect all that much lol. Crap gets real, though.

This reminds me, I still need to watch Cowboy Bebop Such a classic, and yet I just haven't found the time.

I'll keep that in mind; the same goes for Cowboy Bebop, you find out what you're in for with episodes 5-6.
