FMA Brotherhood or Madoka Magica. Neither one wastes time in getting to business, and their plots are equally impressive for their lengths.

Also, I personally liked the plot of Higurashi a lot. Maybe its because I wasn't expecting there to be any plot, but I couldn't see any of the plot twists coming at all. Very convoluted show.

As for the people saying One Piece, I say no. The plot is really overrated in my opinion, it's simply an enjoyable show. There's too much wasted time, too many characters with little to no development, and the show's progression is just too slow. Cut out all the fluff, fat, and filler, and you'd have a masterpiece. That's what sets the picks above apart: I can't think of a moment in each that you could take out of the show and still have the same experience.

With all due respect, you saying that shows you either haven't watched it,or you just skipped through the episodes. Oda places heavy emphasis on the character development.Every character is unique and original.

With that said,we all have our opinions and differences, not everyone's going to like the same thing.

hmmm I don't think that any of those super long running shows like one piece, naruto, or bleach have even a half baked plot. Death note and FMA brotherhood were great. I even think that Mirai Nikki had an amazing plot even with the mistakes

1. I have watched the entirety of One Piece and am currently reading the manga week by week

2. I never commented on the uniqueness or originality of the characters, merely their quantity and development.

3. My point, which I'm sticking to, is that One Piece has vastly too many characters for it to ever develop completely. It does have some developed characters, but so many others honestly could have never been written and the story wouldn't have even been different, and got no chance to shine or to have any sort of conflict. As an example, who even remembers Shura? (use the wiki)

For me it would be Hokuto No Ken (Fist Of The North Star I mean that showed Kenshiro do EVERYTHING in being the end century's savior

The reason why there is a huge number of characters is because of the large number of episodes and how long the anime has been running for.The plot also revolves around travelling from place to place,so therefore,of course they're going to be meeting alot of new characters along the way. However, they're all just side characters,or serve to move the story along for a short while then disappear. Our focus should be on the main characters and how fully developed they are,and we can all agree that Oda has done a great job at that.

I haven't seen OP, so I'm not exactly weighing in, but personally I think character development and plot are two wildly different things. There are anime with amazing characters but shit plots, and also the reverse.

But I honestly can't imagine something as long as One Piece hasn't embarrassed itself at least a couple times.

In contrast to the discussions of One Piece being too long, it's a shame that Angel Beats! didn't run for the 2 cours it was planned for. With a bit more time for backstory and development for all the characters past Otonashi, Yuri, Hinata etc. it could've been near perfect, and it would've made the ending all the more powerful.

I was going to put SAO or Mirai Nikki but Death Notes plot was amazing so I have to agree with this.
