Medaka Box

It does all the stupid typical shit that shouldn't be in shounen anymore, but does it in an extremely badass, over the top, and hilarious way.

Claymore!!! No one likes Claymore?!?! haha

Shonen but female lead!!! Man, anyone who's up to date, things are getting pretty crazy, very cliche things, demon becomes super demon, becoming mega demon etc. etc., but we have the wimpy boy she's been traveling with since chapter one who is now SPOILERS:
Not sure how it breaks the norm of shonen, maybe just seeing all these beautiful (and some not so much) female warriors fighting demons and then (not saying who) all of a sudden getting killed off. I love all shonen series' but, Claymore has a special place with me lol

Full Metal Alchemist. Best way of defining shounen that I've ever seen. Two kids playing around with an unknown element and become amateur alchemist. One day, they lose their mother and try to bring her back. Big mistake that almost makes them lose themselves in the process. Some years later, they're both older, a little wiser, and great alchemist on a mission to get their bodies back. Only problem now is that the world is tough and the truth they're looking for is cruel. The best thing I like about FMA is that it always tests your morals. What would you do to get your body back? Would you use the ultimate power, even if it meant losing yourself or your soul? It's easy to forget what age Ed and Al are when you got all these tough decisions to consider. There is no right or wrong question nor answer, just "what is" and "is it worth it?".

HxH definitely does things different from regular shounen, I especially like that Gon and Killua are never the strongest and most overpowered characters. I find that a lot of Shounen have the main characters get so strong the fights become boring, but HxH is never boring.

For me it would have to be Gintama. It basically grasps every possible emotion and drops it on you, leaving viewers and readers refreshed every time.

JoJo Bizarre Adventure is another shounen that is different from today's standard.
Not only is amazing artwork but in story as well!

Anime - FMA 2003. I don't really think the manga/Brotherhood applies, though.

Maoh: Juvenile Remix also does some interesting things with the shonen formula, I think.

Honorable mentions: Soul Eater for doing the formula, but doing it ten times better than anything else (also for the most interesting fusions of creepy and cute, but that's not relevant here). And to Cirque du Freak, for being a great example of shonen manga that's actually an incredibly faithful adaptation of a UK novel series (as opposed to starting out as a shonen manga).

First one that comes to mind is Hunter X Hunter, it's quite unique and more cleverly written than most than what I have seen. Also fighting and action seems to be much more than just brute force fighting like a lot of others

Ichigo 100%. Let's be honest: the only thing that interests boys moreso than mindless violence is a girl's charm (or girls' charms in this case). Lol

Hey! I envied him during my awkward teen years. I always wished I could dated more than one girl. Almost happened too! Man, I regretted that wish soo much. It was scary.

Ah! My Goddess works too.
