It's a hockey-puck sized box that hooks in directly to your internet connection and to your television that lets you play (among other things) streaming content such as Crunchyroll without having to use your PC.

You would want one of these types of things if you don't have an internet ready tv or BD player already.

It is Apple's direct competitor against:
Roku
WD
Boxee
and many others.

And has playback functionality that is also available on:
X-Box
PS3
etc..

So, in other words, I have no use for this. Ok, thanks.

One site I saw about the added channels on the Apple TV said Crunchroll supplied sports programming. :/

BUT.... You don't have to quit playing your PS3/whatever you're using - which is EXTREMELY helpful in RPGs with save points such as Star Ocean 4 :P

Aside from that, I can agree to everything above.
In terms of "needing" one, Apple went so far as to remove Front Row (basically Apple TV on OS X) from OS X (Mac) devices so customers would have to buy an Apple TV to get the same convenience Front Row offered, thus "trying" to create a need among consumers >_>
So yeah, only under specific circumstances would I say purchasing one is justifiable.

Oh, I didn't say you "need" one, just if you are into the itunes environment already and an apple fan, it might be more to those sorts of tastes. I prefer the Roku myself. You can get one of those for half the price, and have way more channels available.

I tested this on my Apple TV. Works amazingly.

First HD and a very smooth, fast, easy to use interface.
Second, Autoplay!!! You can marathon series without needing to touch anything!!!

Up to this, PS3 was in my opinion the best way to stream. Not anymore, move over Roku and PS3, there is a new best way to watch CrunchyRoll.

A huge thank you to the team that worked hard on this. Job well done.
