CR actually tried to implement 720p on the Roku recently, but the method of implementing it turned out to cause issues and they quickly rolled it back. The good news is that does mean they hadn't forgotten about we Roku users.

I doubt they will invest in 1080p for Roku users anytime soon, since not all Roku units are capable of 720p. Also in terms of units sold, there are more Apple TV units (13 million) vs. the Roku (something more than 5 million). CR would no doubt invest in implementing 1080p for one or both of the game consoles first.

Yep, still waiting on that Vita app. My PS3 is down and I have no means of watching CrunchyRoll unless its on a computer which isn't always available to me.

Oh, I didn't say you "need" one, just if you are into the itunes environment already and an apple fan, it might be more to those sorts of tastes. I prefer the Roku myself. You can get one of those for half the price, and have way more channels available.

What??? Half price? Roku 3 have same price than Apple TV 3, both can play 1080p, Roku 2 can´t play 1080p.

Roku HD is 59.95 though and that does play 1080p. Not that it will do you any good just yet, admittedly. CR
are still working on delivering only 720 to the CR app. Roku LT is 49.95 but also only goes to 720 for everything. In other apps I cannot see any discernable difference in 720 vs 1080, my tv is only 42", but ymmv.

The big difference is the number of channels available. Roku has 2-300 already and constantly growing. Apple has only a handful. It appears they want to limit your choices there, which is all the more amazing that they even agreed to host CR .

So, as I opined, if you're into itunes, get an Apple tv. Or if CR is the only other app you will use too, I suppose. If you are into anything else like Amazon or vudu, and want an open platform where you might even write your own apps if you are clever enough, get a roku. But for the cheaper models you do need wireless capability in your router.

Edit: Roku 2 does play 1080p, it's just that the CR app hasn't been updated to deliver that, and indeed it will probably only go to 720 if bragging rights on how big your bandwidth is are matter to you. As I said above, I personally can't see any difference in 720 vs 1080 and 720 takes less bandwidth...

Finally I now have access to pretty much all of the media I want directly from my Apple TV 2.
No more lugging the laptop down to the TV and hooking it up anymore.

Thank you Crunchyroll.

Does anyone know if this will be avalible in the UK?

Yes it's available in the UK.

Interestingly Apple don't mention it on their UK website.
