I am a slight achievement whore but can see the frustration it can bring. I don't believe online achievements do more harm, they aren't forcing you to try and get them, its an optional bonus, I feel I get more for my money when I get achievements as oppose to playing through a game and never touching it again. With the new achievement system they are bringing with the xbox one it should make things more interesting. http://www.neowin.net/news/e3-2013-microsoft-on-xbox-ones-new-achievement-system

While they do up the reply value, there are also frustrating situations like the one my boyfriend is in. He has all but one achievement in Halo 3:ODST, which is this one: http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Vidmaster_Challenge:_Endure Since ODST isn't the most popular Halo game, he pretty much has to rely on finding 3 friends who are good at Firefight on Heroic and are willing to do this, which will probably take a good few hours. I'm willing to help, but no one else seems interested. This ONE online achievement is preventing him from completing the achievements for this game. This is my point in saying online achievements are harmful.

Also, there are plenty of games I'll still play whether or not I'm going for achievements. They're not my only incentive to play. Plus, before 360 and PS3, achievements and trophies didn't exist and online play wasn't where it is today, so what kept people playing then?

I understand that, I would be all for 2 separate sections for achievements, offline and online. So if you do complete all offline achievements for a game it would display that. Games still keep us interested today, the achievements are just an added extra to keep people playing longer, also it means that certain games that may not be very good but have easy achievements will get bought by a few achievement hunters :P

I personally don't achievement hunt with games I don't care for, whether or not the achievements are supposed to be easy. I don't want some huge gamerscore filled with games that don't show you what kind of gamer I am. I want my gamerscore to speak for the games I play. Granted, I still have those games that I tried, decided I didn't care for, but now I have 1 or 2 achievements. Now, they sit there, throwing off my score and suggesting I play a game I don't. Which is why "Press Start" types of achievements piss me off.

It would be nice to be able to manage our achievements, delete not only ones with 0 score next to them. I definitely find it hard to go through a game for achievements if i'm not enjoying it, 9/10 I don't even bother, seems like a waste of time and its hard to play a game you can't enjoy when the entire point of playing a game is enjoyment xD.

I would love to delete games from my profile that have like 2 or 3 achievements that were those, "you played our game, here's an achievement" type of achievements. Or, I completed one chapter of a game and now I have 1 achievement, but I didn't enjoy the game and won't continue the story. Actually, it would be nice to delete any game because they're OUR profiles, so why can't we? If I have most of the achievements in a game, but I want to delete it for whatever odd reason, I should be able to. Or if I want to get them all over again.

Achievements are a really cool addition to gaming, but the system needs improvement.

Or just a way to hide certain games from the achievements list, their score would still contribute but it wouldn't be shown when people check, you can only either show or hide all at the moment.

By the way, how is it an achievement to spend hours of time online fighting random people you don't know? Don't you have better things to do with your time?

And to make the Fight Online 1000 Times achievement even worse... There are in-game titles in DOA5 that require you to WIN online 1000 times with EVERY character. Are you fucking kidding me? I don't normally post memes but,

Oh, I completely forgot that there are these other titles in the game that make you want to choke the developers. Not only do you have to win online 1000 times with each character, but you have to win 3000 times online with each character as well! Seriously, even the most dedicated gamers and DOA lovers will probably never get those achievements unless they literally have nothing else to do with their life and are able to be playing DOA online all day, every day. Even then, it would take way too long and most people I know would give up. I'm glad these are in-game titles and not actual achievements.

Eh I like some of the online ones like the easter eggs in COD zombies, since it's like a challenging puzzle. However, the grindy ones I despise.

i usually finish the game before going for achievements, it makes the game more entertaining after you finish it, but i do hate the achievements were you have to win a certain amount of times consecutively

Multiplayer trophies is so damn annoying.
If the multiplayer was popular and fun, then it wouldn't be so bad.
But the mp in The Last of Us isn't that fun :P
I love the game, but not the multiplayer. And if I want to get the platinum trophy, I have to play like 160 matches. I've played maybe 10 now, and I've had the game for some weeks now.

And don't forget how life-sucking some of those achievements can get. "Go through the entire game without taking any damage", or "Level 3 characters to level 100 each", etc.

Great if you have zero life outside of a console or PC, but nigh impossible for those with a life, a family, etc.

I use to trophy hunt alot, my level is pretty high, but i got bord of it after a few years. It did make my single player games last longer thou. And with the issue of online trophies being to hard or long to complete is really for the hardcore, if your not hardcore into it you'll make it a choir. I love fighters and don't even notice getting all those win 1000 online match trophies, while on the contrary fps bore me and i would hate doing long kill x amount of people where as for my brother its a breeze. Point being only trophy hunt the games you love, not the ones that are just average to you.

PSN will have to play now. I have to stream live and create walkthroughs for all these achievements and boy I'll tell ya some good stories. But I'll just say that some of them are ridiculously hard to get or require insane amounts of time or repetitive things. (Such as Naruto UNS2 where you need EVERY TITLE AVAILABLE).

Some are fun to get while others are a pain, just deal with it.

The whole point of achievements is to get you to play the game more and make you feel like there's more value there, then there actually is. Online achievements likely have a similar goal or making you get the game sooner so you can play with everyone rather than waiting to get it cheap and having no one to play with. This makes them more money and such.

I love getting achievements but online achievements are annoying. Especially when your friends don't play the same games as you

I remember when I first got my 360 and Halo 3, but not Xbox Live. I got every single achievement I could, but then there were another dozen that I couldn't get because they were online only... Which was another reason I liked CoD4 so much.

Another thing that really annoys me is the "secret" achievements. If they're story related then no problem, you'll get them as you progress in the game, but if they're just random tasks to be done it's just stupid.
