I'll share what happened to me today :
It's lunch time, I'm pretty hungry and forgot my lunch..I'm kinda in a hurry too so I decide to go eat at subway. So I'm in line there is 4 other people and the guy paying looks like an homeless person. He's paying in small change and he only has 3$, what he got cost 7,50$...the cashier is trying to tell him he's missing money and the guy doesn't really talk he just offer the change to the cashier which doesn't really know what to do...I was feeling bad, everyone seemed pretty embarrassed too..In the end the cashier just took the change, gave him 2$ saying "here is your change sir" and gave me cookies too. This guy made my day..We don't see that very often nowadays...I tipped him

I'm more interested in this magical period of time you repeatedly mention where being courteous and kind to everyone was part of popular culture. I don't recall there ever being a period of time where everyone was just nice.

You know, back in the days of Romeo and Juliet. Where you had your knight in shining armor lmao.
But yeah. Idk what times she's talking about either.

Yeah, nonsensical. Just another one of those instances where people preface their displeasure with contemporary society with a comparison to some perfect old version of society that never really existed. You know?

For example, a 50 year old going, "Back in my day, kids didn't do the drugs and bad stuff they do today! You modern children are horrible!" Even though in the 70s, hippies ran rampant, and we all know what their favorite plant was.

It's like people just say that old is better, even if it isn't. I could go on for hours about the myriad of examples I've found, but i'll save you the bore.

I never go out of my way to help someone, unless I know them. But common courtesies (IE, opening a door for someone, helping someone carry a heavy load, bumming a smoke out if I have one) are something I do without even noticing. I rarely see others doing it however, and find it surprising. Maybe Slpiknot is right, maybe people = sh*t. . .

sometimes it's disappointing to see how rude other people to the goodness you show to them but com'on that's life... it's not always fair so it's better to leave them like that.. i choose to be good.. to help others to the best that i can.. to share the goodness and blessing that i have.. so if other people react or respond to me negatively it's their choice.. it's their lose.. that's their problems not mine.. i believe that we are the one who can control our lives, the way we like to live it.. so if they want to be rude and act like primitive go ahead they don't know what they are missing in their lives..in this world.. always be positive even though the rest are not.. it's just mind set.

Yeah I like this thread! Of course. I still believe there are some good left in us. No doubts on that. I often let people in the store before me in line when I'm going to pay for my food. Small kindness that might appear somewhere else at me. If not them. It's when I give up on believing the good things I fall. Only when I keep believing I have enough faith. To be able to be myself and be happy for what I have right now and not wish that things should be much better than it is. Well that is at least a start!

These days I find myself thinking of most people as a bunch of oversized children.

For some reason it really helps.

Humanity has, for a long time, been kind of, for lack of a better word, a jerk. We would use other animals, destroy their habitats, and kill them for the better of themselves. We keep them as "pets", keep them in cages, and murder them for fun. We have destroyed the ecosystem of this Earth. We make it worse. But are all people inherently evil, with only bad things being true to ourselves? No, but are all people inherently good, with only good things allowing us to be true to ourselves? No. We are all different. As humans, we can change, become better. We must put our faith of humanity into this hope. But, we can also go the other way. Thinking positively is a delusion, but so is thinking negatively. We can not think in purely one way, realistically. We can, however, have hope.
