I finished Miyuki Miyabe's The Gate of Sorrows a few weeks ago. It was okay, but from the beginning, I was hoping it would be like Stephen King's It, but with noir elements, so that was sort of a letdown.

About three weeks ago I finished Velocity by Dean Koontz. It's a dark, beat-the-clock thriller I much enjoyed. I'm currently reading Frances Stonor Saunders' The Cultural Cold War: The CIA in the World of Arts and Letters and Dennis Lehane's Mystic River.

Just finished the Broken Earth Trilogy by NK Jemisin (The Fifth Season, The Obelisk Gate, The Stone Sky.) Very depressing, but moving series. Interesting to see a post apocalyptic fantasy world, and the author does a good job of blending science and magic. Interesting characters, although they're more survivors than heroes which may bother some.

Moving on to The Stand by Stephen King.

Just like the guy above me, I just finished Nineteen Eighty-Four (1984) which is kind of depressing.

So right now I'm looking for something more lighthearted!

I'm open for suggestions.

Journey to Aviad. I know it's not a manga, but the writing style and story are just so awesome!

I'm currently going through Rokka no Yuusha, though I'm quite sad the fantrans for volume 5&6 aren't done and likely won't be done due to it being picked up by yenpress. So I'll be waiting at least a year to get caught up.

I've also read up to volume 6 of Kokoro Connect. This one really breaks my heart as for some reason its not available legally in the west, so I'll likely be waiting a year+ to get up to volume 9.

I've also been meaning to read No Game No Life, but I got caught up with that AdletxFremy goodness of Rokka no Yuusha. But I'm really looking forward to this as I thought the anime was fantastic, though its beyond disappointed a season 2 will likely never happen.

I think that's it for me. I've really enjoyed Rokka no Yuusha and Kokoro Connect thus far. But that just makes it sting so much more that I'll be waiting quite a while for the newer volumes to be translated.

I've started to read History of Tom Jones, a Foundling by Henry Fielding.

Which has been difficult to read due to its hard vocabulary!

Among others, The Rising Sun by Michael Crichton. Also, today I went to the library and read the first chapter of David Copperfield by Charles Dickens. Which I have read many times before. Not David Copperfield but the first chapter of David Copperfield. Actually, in the past I probably made it to about page 200 or so but never finished it. The edition is longer than the one Dickens initially published, they added back in stuff he took out. Not sure if that's the best move for someone who was paid by the word or whatever to begin with but... bah!

The Rising Sun is entertaining.

currently it's Furiously Happy by Jenny Lawson and i love it. i loved her first book Let's Pretend This Never Happened a Mostly True Memoir a little more, but this book really struck a chord with who i am right now, so i'm so happy i have it.

past books have mostly been non-fiction, though i did finish rereading The Bell Jar not too long ago.

Just started The Forever Court by Dave Rudden, who is a lovely man in addition to a good writer. This is the second in his Knights of the Borrowed Dark series, YA modern fantasy.

Recently read Spare and Found Parts by Sarah Maria Griffin. Speculative fiction, also YA, also very imaginative.

Reading some nonfiction right now as well:

Ghostland - An American History in Haunted Places by Colin Dickey. This is fascinating, and not just another ghost book.
Listening to Packing for Mars by Mary Roach on Audible right now. Very funny, very informative, which are Mary's hallmarks.
