I tend to be hesitant to jump into series with over 50 episodes. I like conclusion, and I'd rather not devote all my time to one series for possibly months. But that's probably more due to my impatience than anything else. I like marathoning short series or watching simulcasts, because then I can easily consume all available episodes in a short amount of time.

Not interested at all in One Piece, Naruto, or Bleach, but I have been meaning to watch Gintama for the longest time. I just gravitate towards shorter shows when I have extra time, though.

For the record, Hunter x Hunter is a fantastic long series. I may not have watched it if I hadn't followed the simulcast from the beginning, but really, it has absolutely no fillers and every episode is worth half an hour of your time. Some shows truly need all those episodes to tell their story properly.

It's fantasy/science fiction, not anime, but Dr. Who has to be the poster child for a long running series. It has been running for what, 50 years?

All those with hundreds of episodes

Rurouni Kenshin is the longest one i've actually completed... except I got told the last third is all filler so I stopped at like 68 which isn't technically finishing it lol. I'm not really that interested in anime with that many episodes, I don't think many of them are that good anyway... just popular because they can be kind of hooking.

Yes, That would work from an artistic point of view, but I highly doubt their marketing department would agree with either of us.

Frankly, some of the best anime's to date are between 12 and 26 episodes... so really, i'm going to say that. Now that doesn't mean they can't milk the living shit out of it (god knows they all try) but really, a good product sells better then a large one. More is not better and you can only stuff your gut with so much filler before you realize you would rather have a single bite of something truly amazing.

On a purely Artistic level, whatever works for the idea they are portraying.

Dr. Who is AWESOME!

And yes it had the 50th anniversary live GLOBAL telecast a couple weeks ago.

LONG LIVE THE DOCTOR!

I am psyched for the Christmas special to see the next Doctor!

Oh totally, I have a really short attention span, so I like to know that the time I've invested into something will produce results. It's one of the reasons I like anime more than most American television, over the period of 11 episodes you get a better story than most American shows tell in 100+.

I'd like to say the same is true for anime, but I wouldn't be able to tell you. A long episode counter for me is one of the biggest turn offs a series can have, so I haven't watched any Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, Gintama and the like.

I think it depends on the series. In my opinion, an appropriate number of episodes an anime should have is around 25. Though if the story is a bit complex, of course, it'll need to go longer than that. As long as it doesn't get repetitive or boring, then an anime can go as long as it wants.

No, but I have had a problem with some anime's pacing or amount of fillers. I actually prefer 100+ episode anime.

If the anime is really good, I don't mind all the episodes. For Katekyo Hitman Reborn, I wish there were more episodes lol. In general, a good number for me is around 25-50.

For a series like Pokemon, all those episodes were unnecessary imo. I do love the games though ^^
