well... im Japanese and lived in Japan for lik 13 years and i think it's learning Japanese culture by anime is bad way... they screw up bunch of things to make sense with anime.... but some of em are true thou..(lik White Day, cultural festivals, Golden Week, etc).... i would recommend JDrama instead of anime, for learning Japanese culture

About time something like this came up.

^ Even if i'm not Japanese i can understand where you're coming from. Anime makes me look at the Japanese culture at extremes.

Tho' i did learn about the amematsuri and stuff like that from anime. Shrines, offerings, kotatsu?!, and fortune telling too.

Yeah. They're things you can't simply translate to Mr. or Mrs. Love those honorifics. They're really useful in knowing how much a person thinks he/she is close the person he/she is talking to.

Wow, you'd be suprised at how much you learn through anime! Ha. ^-^

1. Golden Week is a week with a bunch of holidays. Usually students get the whole week off?
2. White Day is giving the person you like something white. (who would've known?)
3. You usually say "itadakimasu" before eating.
4. There are a lot of cultural festivals during the year.
5. At these festivals, most people wear kimonos.
6. The school regulations; school uniform, shoes, etc.
7. Students don't change classes- teachers do.

Eek! That's a bunch! =] Yay!
