Why is make-up viewed so negatively?

I can see make up being a nice touch up while at times I view it as putting on a "face".
Sure, some girls won't dare to go out in public nor check their mailbox without spending hours plastering make up on.

But i respect and give props to the women who dont always feel the need to put make up on whenever they go out. I like the natural look on a girls face, not hidden under layers and layers of makeup and some end up looking like a clown.

Would you please stop this "woman are all always beautiful the way they are" nonsense? You know that's not true.

Right? If women looked our best while 100% natural, then many fabulous things wouldn't exist, including:
1) heels
2) makeup of any kind
3) bras, corsets, and bustiers
4) Adobe Photoshop

I recognize that Photoshop is the only one of the above that wasn't specifically created to make men look better, since it was clearly created for the purpose of pasting friends' faces onto dirty porn. However, the inescapable truth is that stilettos are hot, makeup only hurts when it's done wrong, bras are a requirement for anyone bigger than an A cup (men included), and Photoshop is the only thing that makes internet dating viable.

Don't get me wrong; my favorite way to see a real woman is totally free of, makeup, shoes, and clothes of any kind - while rolling around in my bed. But it comes after a selection process that takes into account all three and can only be bypassed with massive amounts of alcohol.

A lot of bands I listen to wear make-up, and they get made fun of for being "emo" and whatnot. But they do it because they like it, and they don't care what anyone else thinks. And in my opinion, that's the view you should have with anything like that. Do what you want, and look the way you want to. People that like it will like it, people that don't like it can just go screw themselves ^_^
I personally think that most girls look great as they are without make-up and don't need to unnaturally change themselves. But at the end of the day it's really whatever makes you happy with yourself.
Anything is viewed negatively people people are jerks and like to hate, so someone viewing something negatively is just irrelevant.

personally i don't care whether or not a girl (hell, or a guy?) has make up on, it's their preference/choice just as Dropplet said in the 1st post, if it makes someone feel prettier why not? though i do see girls going overboard with how much they wear and i can't help but have one of those "too fake" thoughts crossing my mind...since i gave a split opinion my bottom line for this will be, if you know how to do it well go for it nothing wrong with it

Make-up is not a bad thing unless that person goes overboard that's when I hate it. I personally hate the whole fake eyelash, fake nails, or like 3 coats of powder on you face. I prefer just putting on eye-liner, massacre, and some times lipstick and I barely put these on

makeup off: nice to meet you
makeup on: wait, who are you again?

I don't know...I just feel like makeup turns someone into a totally different person (by appearance). Takes my mind some time to adjust. As long as I don't notice much (radiate lipstick = big nono) I have no instinctive qualms.

2. women wear make up because theyre insecure about how they look. news flash ladies men don't REALLY care how you look without make up as much as you think we do. You've just created a standard for yourselves over time so stop entertaining us guys and just be REAL.

3. make up is not an art form, do not dumb down a thing such as a true art form so that something like make up can fit in.

4. im not saying im a know it all but I believe this to be true based on history and my point of view as a man, one who does not wear make up. also common sensee pfff.

As for your 3rd point, how would you define the word "art"?[/quote

Art to me is simply expression through creativity. A lot of people might consider art to be more or less, I think this has changed with some people over time. I guess I shouldnt tell others what they should believe is true art but lets be serious for a second. I don't believe make up is considered an art form by most people who would take art seriously and if make up is indeed an art form then so is me cutting my toe nails or shaving my face every morning.

I was just asking because I do hair and makeup for a living. Also, my non-vocational education was centered around what others would call the traditional traditional visual arts (e.g. painting, sketching with different media, etc.) Makeup (when done correctly) focuses on line structure, light, form, and the color wheel. Mastering the color wheel is especially important so that colors don't clash. As a general rule, if the first thing people see is makeup, you've done it wrong. Because of this, I feel makeup is an art- the conscious use of skill and creative imagination especially in the production of aesthetic objects.

In my opinion, make-up is only bad if it is not used properly or the girl is too young.

I only use chapstick, lip balm, or lip gloss. Everything else is a definite no.

Makeup is all good if it's applied well but I think a woman looks her best when she wakes up in the morning and her hair is all messed up and her looks are the last thing on her mind.

Now if I could just get them to stop calling the cops when they see me outside their windows in the morning.......

I don't have any problem with makeup. As long as powder or w/e isn't dripping off someone's face I'm fine. lmao.

You wear it if you want. F*ck society.

You don't wear it if you don't like it. F*ck society.

YOU do what makes YOU happy.

And at the end of the day, all the makeup in the world cannot hide an ugly heart.
