Steins;Gate has to be my favorite anime. I loved every single episode. It really got to me, I think it's the first time I cried because of an anime.
My heart was ripped apart when it ended

I don't know if I have a definitive favourite. I have some I've been a fan of longer than others, like Sailor Moon, but no idea if I would say anyone in particular is my favourite. I usually go for the magical girl genre, fantasy in general, or slice of life. Occasionally a horror will catch my eye though.

Sword Art Online (9)- This anime had such good character development that that alone makes this such an awesome anime. The idea of an over-powered main character, who has real life problems, relates to viewers so well. The action, romance, tragedy, sadness, and side characters really blend together into a fantastic piece.
Death Note (9)- This anime had such intense rivalry that the intellectual exchange itself provided awesome plot and dramatic moments. The anime really hooks the viewer into the story of Death Note.
Inuyasha (9)- The tragedy and characters really brought me through the whole series. The fights between justice versus evil kept the plot interesting. Slowly the characters changed and it also changed the perspective in which I viewed this anime. I really enjoyed watching this to the end of the main series.
Fairy Tail (9)- The action, the thrillers, the tear-inducing plot, and the characters made this anime awesome. As death, despair, and destruction came to the characters' doorstep, they pulled through each of them, using all their willpower to break through the dejected reality. This anime was so inspiring that it interested me the whole way through all 175 episodes.
Hunter x Hunter (9)- The breathtaking characters convinced me that this anime was awesome. These characters show the world that they will improve doing whatever it takes to be the strongest. The plot surfaced curiosity on how far these two main characters will go in order to prove their worth.
The Pet Girl of Sakurasou (9)- The anime provides both hilarious comedy while also intertwining the reality of sorrow within it, which provides an upbeat then depressing mood that catches the viewer into the anime's plot. The characters, individualized by their personalities, improve the anime as a whole with both hilarious and sorrowful moments that attracted my attention.

Toradora!
I seem to have mix feelings towards the word "favorite" though, so just consider any Anime on my (incomplete) favorites list my number 1.
