so i just finished Tengen toppa gurren lagann for the 3rd time. and how can a person describe the pure GAR epicness of it. you cant. just about all of the characters in the show are so brimming with manliness it brings you to tears. so tell me, what is the thing you love the most about the epicness of tengen toppa gurren lagann? and if the manliness was too much for you. thats ok... i want to hear from you too. and oh post a pic of it if you want

I watched it a long time ago. And while I enjoyed it, it's not on my list of favourite animes. Manly or not.

Although I did feel shocked when...

I've only seen a few episodes, but I like it a lot so far. Too soon to tell if there's too much manliness. 'Fraid I probably won't come back to it until I'm caught up on Hunter x Hunter, which may take a while.

I've been enjoying rewatching this on CR; I kind of need to be in the right mood for it though.

I plan on checking this out ASAP when I finish Itazura na Kiss and Oreimo. I've been interested in watching this anime ever since I saw it at #1 of someone's favorite anime of all time list. Then when I saw crunchy slowly (but surely) adding episodes, I knew it fate that brought me here!

TTGL is the MOST GAR (manly) show you can watch.

this is the definition of GAR
A term used towards male characters and individuals who are so overwhelmingly manly that your own masculinity is absolutely *buried*, leaving you naught but a whimpering, swooning girl-child before them.
i dont know what ROC is though.
back on topic.
Gurren lagann is like incomprehensibly manly. but you have to finish the story. i know alot of people that quit halfway through. you cant.

Sorry, I asked because I was tired and my mind was rambling. There can be a significant difference between GAR and the Rule of Cool, although in male characters I expect they overlap 99% of the time. TTGL is a good example of both.

ROC isn't even a correct abbreviation though; just ignore that bit.

TTGL is full of cool characters, when you're thinking of manliness...

I'd say the rule of cool would be the poses they do.

ok i see. rule of cool. GAR is specific to men. rule of cool doesnt even have to talking about a person. let me explain. think about the manliest mc from any anime/movie/book. just him talking or fighting, what he is doing doesnt even have to break the laws of physics, or any law. just his manly presence is enough. a GAR character can utilize the rule of cool very easily though but so can a car slamming into the side of a mountain and exploding into a massive fireball instead of crumpling.
that make any sense?

Yeah I looked it up. I'm used to thinking about it in terms of people is all, after Spike Spiegel.

I can handle the testosterone. That character is one of the reasons why I enjoyed the show.

I don't really dig the storyline and I'm not into mecha animes in general. Only reason Full metal panic is one of my favourite animes is because the interaction between Kaname and Sagara is ultra funny.
