I'm looking for a highly story driven, highly intellectual manga; I'm really into compelling narratives. Preferably something dark, and involving science or the occult. I'm not really into kiddie manga, but if it satisfies the criteria then I'm not opposed to it. I've read Fullmetal Alchemist and Akira (both of which I love dearly), but that's about it.

"Ghost In the Shell" by Shirow Masamune would be worth looking into. It's what I would call an intellectual sci-fi thriller. It grapples with ideas of consciousness and the human soul, among other things. The art work can be a bit dated at times, but it's decent.

Hmm, I'm rather fond of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, and Berserk. Something similar?

Genres I like are Slice of Life, Action, Comedy, and Horror.

Not sure how much traffic this thread gets, but it's been awhile since I picked up a new manga.

I'd like to find a horror series with decently good art that focuses on emotional trauma.

As an example, I didn't like MPD: Psycho much because what I read of it felt fairly cold and emotionless (nothing wrong with it, just not the right tone). In comparison, I really liked a manga I read several years back called Variante, where

If anything comes to mind of any type though, I'll give it a look.

Example image from Variante:

I love Tower of God, Noblesse and a host of other Korean Manhwa! I agree that everyone should discover that whole genre!

I want something that is short and sweet but with a unique plot to it.

If you want an idea, look up Necromancer. It's nice and short, but unique and quite interesting.

If you haven't already discovered that on the site, you should like Nanatsu no Taizai, which Crunchroll carries (BONUS!)
If you use Fantasy as your search tag for any manga site, most of what comes up will be fairy tale style, so you can choose how much adventure you want in it.

Just finished Gunslinger Girl, felt sad and lost, look for a new series, any recommendations?

1)Completed manga, so I can collect and put it in my manga library
2)Good story, characters development and most importantly good ending.
3)good art work
4)no ecchi or harem or unrealistic romances
Already read:

DeathNote, Slamdunk, Dragon ball, Gunslinger girl, Vagabond, attack on titan. FMA, Naruto, Blreach, One Piece, lone wolf and cub, Buddha, Soul Eater, elfen lied...

Thanks

If you like magic + supernatural + action, you would enjoy "Kekkaishi" by Yellow Tanabe. It is a completed manga with good plot and characters development. The fighting style is also unique from regular monster killing anime. The manga provides a more complete story than the animation. Art work is decent, but the story line is good.

Another manga "Claymore" is a slowly on-going manga that I think has the potential to become one of the classic manga in the dark action series (depending on how it ends), just like the "attack on titan". Its animation ended in 1 season with alternate ending, the manga is just so much better.

I forgot to mention that I already read Claymore, but thanks I would check out Kekkaishi.

I guess Gunslinger girls is one of a kind, too bad it only have 15 volumes. I'm really itch for something similar in term of realistic story and actions. The only other I know close to this is black lagoon.

I know what you mean. A good one I know that's somewhat similar is Bamboo Blade. Give it a shot

All of these finished series are true classics:

Monster, 20th/21st Century Boys: by the same mangaka, extremely complex storyline with mature themes (and I don't mean gore/sex).
Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou, Aqua/Aria: sentimental laid-back mangas placed in retro-futures with almost zero story but it stays on your mind.
Death Note, Akira: the anime versions are famous, but the mangas are just as good (and substantially different in the case of Akira).
Planetes: sci-fi manga concentrating on everyday life in space.

You should read everything by Naoki Urasawa: Monster, 20th/21st Century Boys, Pluto, and the on-going one, Billy Bat.

Hello! I'm looking for a new manga to read. I like psychological, drama, action, comedy, seinen, and supernatural stories. I prefer the main character to be male. I like interesting stories that are kind of dark, or have a dark-ish theme. Though, I do like when it has some good funny or lighthearted moments. My favorite manga(I'ma describe each one in case you know of a similar story or become interested) are:

Life is Money - a psychological story where 10 contestants bet their lives for 50,000,000 yen. They must survive 10 days in a prison where if their emotions get out of control, they die.

Sugar Dark - a kind of mystery fantasy story with some romance. A young man is wrongfully accused of murdering his superior, and is sent to a life sentence of digging graves in a mysterious graveyard for things called Dark. His one goal is to escape.

Ajin - a dark, kinda gory story that kinda plays on the theme of humanity sucks. Immortal beings called Ajin have recently emerged, and the main character just found out that he is one. Society now views him as a monster, and he must try to keep away from the government and other people, pretty much. The main character is pretty interesting.

Beelzebub - a comedy, action, supernatural story where I like the main characters. It's about a delinquent named Oga who gets stuck with the baby of the demon king.

Toukyo Kushu - this is kind of like Ajin. It's a psychological, horror drama story about a kid who ends up becoming a "Ghoul," which is a being that must feed on humans, and so humanity views them as enemies.

Deadman Wonderland - a pretty gory action, mystery, drama story with some funny moments. It's so good. ;-; A high school kid sees his entire class slaughtered by the "Red Man", and gets blamed for it. He is sent to Deadman Wonderland, an amusement park-like prison. He meets a mysterious girl named Shiro there.

Shuumatsu no Laughter - another story with the "humans suck" kinda theme. Around the world are people with tattoos called Akuma, and they are greatly feared and despised by people. The main character with the tattoo and his sister arrive in a town being terrorized by an akuma, and he proposes to kill him. It's such a good story, I wish it wasn't so short. ;^;

Akumetsu - a really political story that involves a lot of killing, but it has some funny moments as well. Shou, the main character, is a likeable dude that is actually the terrorist known as Akumetsu. He puts on a mask, kills corrupt political figures, and somehow manages to be alive even after his head blowing up.

Bokura no Kiseki - a drama, fantasy, mystery story. The main character was a princess in his past life, but due to bullying when he was younger, he no longer reveals it. However, the magic in his past world begins to affect his new life.

Thanks if you have any recommendations! 8D
