that's great but the person I was quoting already excluded the main character from 'normal'. I think part of what makes Harems WORK is an MC who is unwilling or unable, or who doesn't feel obliged to 'pick one' I don't think such a social dynamic is common or 'normal'. Many women can be insane jealousy machines. Most men in the real world who have more girlfriends than sets of underwear are selfish dicks with a good line a specific cultivated look and careful selection of their prey.

Reaching into my real life own experiences... in university I knew girls who would do the entire basketball team and guys who would do anything that moved... and girls and guys who were in serious relationships and would run screaming away from people who wanted to have an affair with them.

Harem comedies generally work either because the guy doesn't want to be with any of them but they do want to be with him or the reverse.

Or there are the less common harem tragedies where the one he really wants says no but the rest say yes so he ends up with all but the one he really wanted and either ends up feeling bad about it with or without consequences; or he doesn't feel bad about it but... bad things befall him because of it.

Once in a while there are harems where he gets with all but the one he really wants until the end when he really does get the one he wanted. This is probably most guy's dream, get around and still end up with the one you really should have been with from the start but who said no at first but then doesn't mind that you got with all of her friends and enemies before she changed her mind. Realistic? No, but teenaged boys can dream... and older ones. They can dream of not getting STDs while they're at it too....

Secret for all the gals out there: some (all?) guys never really grow up, they are mentally 14 years old for life even though work and family forces them to suppress it most of the time. If not for societal rules... getting with everyone in your harem would probably be normal as it is certainly how guys are programmed to act. We are fighting that tendency all day every day while trying to remain monogamous for the rest of our lives to conform to the rules of our tribes. When genetically we are programmed to spread it around as much as possible... We are above beasts so some of us really aren't fighting it all the time but in the back of our minds, it is there... Even if we love someone, that primal nature is still there beneath the surface. Maybe for women too but I'm not one so I don't know.

The main character from My Mental Choices is normal, he's just having a really bad year. Season three is almost guaranteed being that this is pretty much the highest selling ecchi series in Japan at the moment. We just have to be patient until they announce it.

Fair enough. I still think the typical harem game/anime is an abnormal situation which wouldn't work with a likeable MC if he was too normal himself.

I think 'normal' harems run a real risk of something resembling a 'nice boat'

Nice boat does happen in real life but more common is the collapse of the harem when the ones that aren't chosen give up in tears or worse. You might be left with a couple of girls fighting for a guy but 5 girls? That is unlikely unless they don't know they're in a harem which DOES happen unfortunately.

This anime does tend to fall prey to the typical Harem tropes, like over the top fanservice, and stereotypical characters. However I've never been to bothered by these things AS LONG AS they actually help the humor and are done well and this series while not the best Harem anime ever does do these things well.

Finished both seasons and loved them both... a lot.

Waiting for the third season if there is one upcoming. I've seen all over the place that people are saying that Season 3 is coming but I just can't find a confirmed source...

Any news?

There is no news but the sales are great, no drop at all from season one so it is just a matter of when they choose to make it IMO. There is lots of material to go. Just need to let the buyers buy all the discs from this season first, make them want a third season, need it so a bit of a wait and then next summer probably season three is my guess.

Don't forget that the S2 BDs/DVDs have a few minutes worth of extra content, usually more raunchy fanservice, than the TV shows!

Because of the extra content the fansubs have lagged behind so you will need to wait. You should consider buying the Funi videos if you like them too, but that will mean waiting even longer of course.
