School Days is awesome.

Watch it, you won't be dissapointed.

Unless you prefer to watch the adult swim filler filled flavor of the week anime (aka bleach, naruto, etc.)

If that's the case, then don't expand your viewing interests by watching School Days

Compare School Days to something like "Say I love You"... The characters in say i love you are so goodygoody two shoes, that it becomes like a fantasy world rather that depicting realism. And people seem to like that kind of thing... where characters are good to one another, problems fixed by saying a few words here and there.

It's not like that in real life. I guess School Days reminds people of real life too much.

In my opinion, School Days is one of the best anime ever created. The main male and two female leads are the most realistic characters ever created. No other characters can make me feel so furious and want to go on a killing spree as much as the the characters in School Days.

That's a sign of good writing and story telling.

School Days is obviously an extremely good anime its just that some anime viewers are too close-minded to see the story for what it really is. It is not what people make it out to be most of the time, it is much more than that. If you want to watch a harem that doesn't require you to think and everything is all nice and dandy, go watch Oreshura or sumthin' idk. The only thing im mad about with School Days is that it keeps trying to get in my top 10.

I dont see how it has any sort of realism. high schoolers don't usually kill other high schoolers

Let me put it simply: People don't like the ending, THEREFORE, they attribute the fact that the show is bad because the ending did not end the way they wanted it too. Yes, the psychology in the show is absolute insane (Most of the characters are unrealistically cruel beyond the level of a high schooler) but then again, MOST animes don't tend to have psychologically balanced characters either than make any sense (Gasai Yuno). An anime should be judged by it's morality, chance-taking, risk, originality, plot, character, etc. School days may have left a hole in our hearts but once again

YOU CAN'T JUDGE THE MERITS OF A SHOW BECAUSE IT DIDN'T END THE WAY YOU WANTED IT TOO

That right there is why 90% of people think school days is the worst, if School Days had ended with Makoto reforming his ways, and no one getting killed, then no one would hate it, people hate it because the ending was sad and cruel, which is not how you rate an anime. You can't say Star Wars sucked because you didn't want Darth Vader to die. I can name thousands of animes that are worse than School days, School days took a chance, other animes just steal ideas and variate them to sell themselves. Originality is better than stealing ideas and being safe and boring.

School days is simply a different style of anime, but then you can't hate it because you don't like the dark tone, you have to rate it within the parameters of the dark setting, and no, it's not a great anime, but it's original, it took a chance, it was new, so whatever.

It doesn't have to be common to be realistic. I have no problem believing troubled kids going on shooting sprees in their schools even though it doesn't happen everyday. Teenagers can in fact be mentally troubled enough to do horrible things such as murder, and viloence caused by infidelity is extremely common.

In fact while many people have heard of the "Nice Boat" meme, many don't know that it was actually started because the week the last episode of School Days was supposed to air on Japanese TV, some teenage girl in Japan made headlines by murdering her father with an axe. The networks out of consideration for the tragedy decided to postpone the final episode of School Days, due to its similar content, at the last minute and replaced it with stock footage of boats sailing out in the water during its time slot. Someone made the comment "Nice Boat" on 2chan with regards to the "final episode" of School Days joking as if the stock footage was the final episode. The meme was born then, but became cemented because of the actual boat scene in the final episode when it aired due to the morbid coincidence. So not only do real teenagers go crazy it actually happened when School Days was airing and even was the catalyst for an internet meme's birth.

This comment is interesting. I say interesting because you assume the reason people don't like the show is because it isn't a happy, cliche show like "Say I love you." But just look at shows like Clannad and Angel Beats. Those are pretty sad shows, but people still love them. The reason people dislike School Days is the reason you love it so much; it makes them angry. Most humans have a masochistic side to them. Even though a show is making us cry our eyes out, we still watch all of it and enjoy it. Some people even listen to sad music when they are sad; this just amplifies the sadness. However, most people do not enjoy being angry. Anger makes us do a lot of crazy things, but never go seeking for more anger. No one is saying School Days didn't serve its purpose; it did quite well actually. But that fact that it did so well at infuriating the viewer is the reason why it gets so much hate. You just seem to be a person who enjoys that type of thing. No one is right or wrong for hating or loving the show for that reason.

With that said, you assertion that this show is one of the most realistic animes out there is laughable. The main character has p@#$y thrown at him all throughout the show. Lets be real, he is a 7 at best in the looks department. He is inconsiderate and self absorbed but also not the Badboy type that some girls love. He isn't even smart or funny. He is simply a dull and boring person that no one would notice in a real high school, but this doesn't stop him from banging pretty much every girl in his school.

This is a show which possesses characters who are neither likeable nor interesting to most people; they just piss off the viewer and leave them regretting having watched the show to begin with.

I enjoyed it. I didn't hate Makoto - I didn't even dislike him. Why get mad over something so trivial? A cartoon character?

I also heard it was "bad" a few years ago, but watched it anyways. People have different opinion on things, so I gave it a shot. I personally liked it overall. It's not your everyday "happy happy" type series. And at times, it made me sick to my stomach. Which is the trigger they were going for.

Like GayAsianBoy said, people just don't like to see reality.

The anime is rather realistic in a way that love & relationships can be corrupt. People hide secrets from each other that ends up hurting themselves and/or others. It also involves jealousy, lust, etc. I don't think the series was made for you to love any of the characters or be positively relating to any one of them. Some who watch it can possibly relate from bad friendship/relationship experiences.

I'd say, you should definitely give it a shot.

Seriously, people hate on School Days like it's the worst anime of all time. It actually does it's job. It makes you HATE the protagonist. It's not for everyone since most seem to get so frustrated by him that they can't stand it, but that's just how much of a douche he is. And the end, was VERY satisfying.

i was posting on the topic of the worst anime or drama you ever saw, and School Days kept coming up. So i'm thinking that i will have to watch it to see how bad it can really be. This maybe a chance to save me from a bad decision.
