Apparently, sarcasm is now illegal in the USA.
I could go into depth on what happened, but he says it better in this video than I ever could through text.

It was a supposed Terroristic threat... Was it used as sarcasm? I'll sign the petition, because I think that's bull shit, but you really should be careful, especially with threatening to do things relating to the act of terrorism. There are a lot of crazy people out there...

Then again, people really shouldn't get so butt hurt over this.

Looks like America is getting really desperate.

Stop playing LoL for a few minutes and pay attention to current events, his Dad said Justin isn't aware of current events/news , hmm maybe Dad can set a time limit on some of his gaming..
Gaming or Real Life, those two shall never meet.

He is like 19.

If you watched the news every once and a while you might know that. Maybe your dad should set a limit on your gaming.

Right , he is 19 and lives at home, so maybe he needs to follow some house rules...set by DAD.
Or he can continue to live in his insular world of gaming and facebooking..hey that isn't much different from jail, I bet the kid would be okay there in jail as long as they provided him internet to game and facebook on. In jail/prison, he might even get more fresh air than he was getting. I bet he would miss his snacks though...and the soda.

I won't bother signing anything for him. He is a stupid kid who should have known that it would be a sensitive subject due to recent events and to say he didn't know about Newtown a couple months after it happened? I find that hard to believe. Even online gaming communities discuss news stories like that. Do I believe he should go to jail though? No, certainly not. It was a stupid thing to do but not jail worthy. Which is why I don't feel there is a reason to sign any petition. Any jury who looks at the evidence and remembers the whole free speech thing will easily set him free and if it even goes before a judge I would find it hard to believe the judge wouldn't just throw it out for being a waste of time.

Also, in the future, please post an actual article link. I have no interest in the view and summary of someone on a youtube video. I can read through an article and get more details faster than watching a 12 minute video that might not include everything.

Because we all know jokes on topics such as racism, misogyny, rape, and killing are all really REALLY mature.

Serves him right. He needs to stop living under the rock he reported has been living under and catch up on modern subjects and things going on in the world. This is his wake up call to that.

He's nothing but another stupid kid hiding behind a 'oh I was just kidding'. Maybe this will remind him to next time not make such obviously wrong comments. The internet is not a safe haven for such things.

What do current events matter? I was investigated by police as a middle school kid 15 years ago, just because someone else claimed I knew how to make pipe bombs. Other than searching my room and questioning me, it wasn't that big of a hassle, and they obviously didn't really believe I was a threat. There have been school shootings since long before many of us were born.

This situation has nothing to do with gaming or awareness of current events. It's just a fact that the police will investigate you if they're given the slightest reason to. The kid is just going to have to go through the hassle and remember to be more careful with what he says and types in the future.
