Stupidity cannot be cured with money, or through education, or by legislation. Stupidity is not a sin, the victim can't help being stupid. But stupidity is the only universal capital crime: the sentence is death, there is no appeal, and execution is carried out automatically and without pity.
Robert A. Heinlein, Time Enough For Love

That being said:

“Laws are like cobwebs, which may catch small flies, but let wasps and hornets break through.”
Jonathan Swift,

The kid was stupid. Should he go to jail no of course not. Let him go time served the time he has already spent in jail may serve to teach a lesson.

Remember: See thou character. Give thy thoughts no tongue and Give every man thy ear, but few thy voice;

At least you can agree that the authorities do a good job responding to reported threats on the internet instead of just waving it off like if it was nothing.

Unless you want another Akihabara Massacre and/or other similar incidents...

And give the U.S. some credit. At least we aren't Britain where you just need to troll/bully someone over twitter before getting thrown the book.

I hate to admit it but this is why you need to be careful about what you post. Because there are a lot of crazy people out there who will take things EASILY out of context and go as far as report them because of the impression they get from those statements. So it's just better to be safe than sorry.

Of course none of the people involved in this are 100% in the right. As everyone has previously said, Justin should've been more mature and the police shouldn't have punished him to the extent they did. Nobody's perfect, mmmk now that that's out of the way, I think it is really stupid that he's getting 8 years for a sarcastic statement. I understand that the government is really paranoid about that stuff happening after all the psychos lately, but really, this is too much. It's this paranoia of the people like the one that hunted him down that really makes me lose hope for this country. I understand that the stuff that happens is horrible sheet, but there's a point to where you can care too much for too long about that stuff.

Ladies and gentlemen, it's occurrences like this that we cannot have nice society in this crazy twisted world.
