Awhile back I told my brother that we should watch FLCL at least once a year. We're the sort that loves the violence and hilarity this anime offers. That coupled with how short the anime is makes it an easy repeat watch.

Aside from FLCL, there are certain anime films such as the Ghibli works and another one we own called Tekkonkinkreet. All are good repeat watches. It's just a matter of getting into the mood and setting aside the time. If your heart isn't in it, then watching something again becomes a chore and is less enjoyable than it should be.

I used to all the time, but with all the current anime and backlogged anime I have that I need to watch, I just watch those instead of re-watching what I've already seen. although there are some series I would love to go back and watch again.

I can and do when it's a show I really, really enjoy.

My favorite show, Neon Genesis Evangelion, I basically set aside a day to marathon once every six months. I love it that much. I can always find something new, and each time, the weirder parts make just a bit more sense to me. It's a wonderful story with a wonderful message that I just can't get enough of.

Other shows I've watched multiple times are Puella Magi Madoka Magica (3 times), Fullmetal Alchemist (2003) (3 times), FLCL (4 times, I'm sure), Serial Experiments Lain, Outlaw Star, Gundam Wing, and Nichijou (2 times).

For me, though, it's less about knowing what's coming, and more the emotions that each show makes me feel. The strange surreal mindscape I get from Eva and Lain are simply unparalleled by most other shows I've watched, the heartache and tragedy of FMA and PMMM always manage to tug at my heartstrings. Sometimes, it's just for nostalgia (as it was for Gundam Wing and Outlaw Star). And even shows as insane as FLCL and Nichijou, fill me with a sense of fun and enjoyment that make me keep coming back for more.

In fact, I'd say there are a number of shows I want to rewatch that I haven't gotten around to yet (Gurren Lagann, Steins;Gate, FMA Brotherhood, etc.), but I haven't had the time to, due to all the other shows I need to watch. But if they are really good and memorable, then odds are I'll have to watch them all over again sometime anyway.

Well, i guess it mostly depends on which anime. With things like cowboy bebop each episode doesn't really led into the next so I tend to only re-watch shows like that when I'm like on a trip or bored.

After it's been a good few years since I've watched something, I may consider re-watching it. Sometimes I would see something on the internet that gives me feelings of nostalgia and I would revisit the anime that I loved when I was a child. (example re-watching Pokemon, Digimon or Metabots)

Recently, my middle school brothers have been getting interested in anime so I would show them some animes that I watched when I was in middle school. They have seen shows like Rurouni Kenshin, Trigun and Full Metal Alchemist (not the Brotherhood version because I just finished watching that one)

Occasionally there are some shows that don't make much since when you first watch them. After you understand the story and know the thought process and motivation of the characters, you can feel compelled to re-watch them. For me, after I finished watching Stiens Gate I immediately felt like re-watching the earlier episodes because I now knew everything that was going on, that before confused me.

Another anime that gave me this urge was Higurashi When They Cry; the murder mystery feel of the show combined with multiple arcs that has the same characters relieve the same month unknowingly. The viewer doesn't understand the motivation or thought process of the characters when they first watch it but after the end of the series you can go back and see the full truth behind the curtain of lies that the anime displays to the viewer. What is shown to you isn't always true as the character you're following becomes increasingly paranoid.
