Please tell me... the story won't continue being this horribly paced. There's no excuse for this crap...

I loved the original :(

No, it's semi-recap episode so you have general idea about what happened before this alternate universe version.

If i remember correctly, the Zuruckspulen is alternate universe things. All things that happened before is what happened in alternative version of history. But as you can guess from openings Jun and Shinku from previous version make appearance. You don't need to know details about what happened in their time, but you should have general idea about how things gone bad and that episode serve as sort of recap.

I think it's possible that the whole recap will stop there, and won't be finished for now and whole 2nd episode will be dedicated for older Jun. What happened in another universe is one of thing you will learn through the whole series (I hope so). It's one of these shows that don't answer all the questions immediately.

Like Older Jun you have no real idea what happened and i think that's what they want to do. So the whole horribly pace where you don't have idea what happened and why is intentional.

I thought the animation for the most part was great. The pacing and the way they decided to structure the first episode was pretty bad though. I'm very hopeful the issues I had with first episode wont continue in the subsequent episodes.

That didn't even really help to be honest; I skimmed through the first 43 manga chapters this morning and they're remarkably different from the first anime. There were similarities, but it was still really different from what I remember.

Although I skimmed through it, and it's been awhile, so I couldn't list them point for point.

Dolls are fighting to become a complete being. That's all I needed to know, I guess since this is an alternate reality kind of anime, they'll introduce the characters again better after it makes the shift next episode.

I get the impression that they were trying to throw the viewer into the universe (which clearly doesn't work when they've only got 22 minutes to adapt). I really doubt that they'll continue this pace after the first episode.

I'm liking the animation so far. It's very clean and crisp. I can't really judge the story so far, seeing that it's only been one episode, and a recap episode at that. Hopefully things start to smooth out and start rolling along nicely. I really hope that this will be a long season, 20-26 episodes, but I doubt that it will since all the other seasons were only 12 or 13 episodes.

The first episode was too fast paced. It crammed the whole first season and parts of the second one. But I'm glad the animation got better

While that was a whirlwind, it was really cool. Some of the watercolor backgrounds were lovely! Only odd thing is that the preview for the next episode looks like it is from a completely different show so I am a bit worried that the actual show will be something else. Not really sure about the dolls and stuff but seems like a popular theme with Fantasia Dolls, Unbreakable Machine Doll, etc.

only 13 episodes unfortunately according to MAL

This isn't a spoiler more than the blurb you'd read on the back of a box, but I'll spoiler it for the purists:

Rozen Maiden is one of my favorite series, anime and manga. I knew that this was going to based on the second manga. I was wondering how they were going to summarize what happened leading up the introduction of an alternate universe. They did something, though those who havent read the first manga would be confused still. I get that it was too fast paced but it couldn't be helped. The second manga has gone longer than the first and still going. Zuruckspulen wants to cover as much as the newer manga as it can so there wasn't much choice but to rush the first manga summary. They would need to do a full year 50 episode series if they wanted to better explain the first half of the story, which they most likely didn't have the budget for.

The first anime followed a completely different storyline from the manga and while it was still great, the ending was unresolved and then the first manga concluded by way of Deus Ex Machina due to an undisclosed dispute between Peach-Pit and their editors just couple years later. Imagine the joy when Peach-Pit was able to pick it up where they let off several months. For those who don't know, they are the same duo who created Shugo Chara.

I almost forgot to mention that Kirakishou only made a cameo at the end of Traumend, which was sad.
She is a very important character. Though that was probably because the writers didn't have much to work with for her since she was introduced so late. When I found out that a new anime was coming I didn't care which story it followed as long as Kira was in it and played a major role.

In short this is like what happened with Fullmetal Alchemist. First anime is its own original story, then gets a new anime that follows the manga. They had the rush the beginning b/c of budget, and should do better pacing for the rest of it.

Yeah, disappointing first episode, especially for those of us that haven't seen the previous material. Still, I think there was enough that I got the gist of things. Hopefully things will be better next episode.
