I watched Dragon Ball, Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, Saint Seiya, Captain Tsubasa, YuYu Hakusho and City Hunter when I was a kid but I wasn't ''into'' anime.

1st time: Naruto, Bleach and Inuyasha made me watch a couple anime afterwards.

2nd time: A few years later, One Piece, Reborn!, Fairy Tail and Gintama. After those, I thought ''I should definitely watch more anime''. Been on a never ending quest to finish my to watch list ever since...

First year university, I'm studying for exams, and I have my laptop out in front of me. This was like. 5 years after i stopped watching anime. (Last watched was like, Gundam Seed or something). I decide to just try Bakemonogatari because my friends liked it. Boom. Instant anime fan again. haha

Yeah, it was a bit similar for me. I watched pokemon, sailor moon, dragon ball, speed racer, and a bit of yu-gi-oh as a young-un, and then nothing else for a long time. While looking for Full Metal Jacket on the internet somewhere, I came across Full Metal Panic!, got curious, watched it, watched other shows after getting interested, and then got hooked. Good times.

I was on a stand by between 2009-2011 but Steins Gate got me back in the game.
Now I'm full force from watching Shin Sekai Yori, Gargantia, and Attack on Titan.

I also started to read a lot more manga. :]

what got me back into anime after I stopped watching it when I thought of it as nothing but "childish cartoons" wasn't any anime in general, but Toonami. stuff like Gundam Wing, Dragonball, Outlaw Star, Big O.. I started to see anime more as a legitimate source of entertainment. a few years down the line, I discovered the joy of fan-subs with anime like Naruto and Bleach. after expanding my viewing spectrum, along with the help of Phantasy Star Online and Final Fantasy XI, I gave up a bit on anime after feeling like I was burned out on it. enter 2011 and a little show that caught my attention called Angel Beats. after watching that, I immediately fell back into anime and have been staying current with it ever since.

I guess the first anime that I watched years after I "grew out of" Pokemon was Grave of the Fireflies, but what really got me into the fandom was Azumanga Daioh.

I was much the same, in my childhood I watched DBZ, Tenchi Muyo, beyblade and Pokemon then stopped with when I stopped watching all the other 'cartoons'. After all back then I didn't even know their was a difference.

Many years later a few Ghibli movies were played on TV which got me to try anime as a whole. I think the first that really caught my eye was Princess Mononoke.

For me personally, it was re-watching all of Ghost in the Shell at random time's. When I'd get really drunk w/my friends I would say, "CHECK THIS SHIT OUT!" throw on an episode or movie and then I'd find myself falling in love again.

I never really left anime. I learned early in life that anime is kick-ass. Even some the new stuff is great.

I remember watching Guyver, and Fist of the North Star when I was in elementary school in the late 80's early 90's, then suddenly I just stopped watching anime after Dragonball and Dragonball Z had gone through it's initial craze.

It wasn't until I stumbled upon Full Metal Panic! myself that I really got back into anime.

The Mobile Suit Gundam 00 series gave me a void that lasted forever. I didn't get over that void until I watched Shinsekai Yori (From the New World) and Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo
