Honestly what gets the respect or lack thereof is what they do afterward. Do they confess that they did a horrible thing and own up to it, or do they try to keep is a dark hidden secret and accuse anyone of lying that calls them a cheater? Because if they do make a horrible mistake and cheat, but talk about it with their partner shortly after it happened ... I can't say that I would think of them as scum for life.

Yes, cheating is a horrible thing, but lets be honest here no one is perfect. I am not saying praise the person for cheating in the first place, but if they realized their mistake and admit they screwed up, I can't think of them as a horrible person for the rest of their life.

However, if said cheater keeps it secret and tries to pretend they did nothing wrong, yeaaaaaah .... I have no respect for them.

From a (now former) married person's standpoint, you make a commitment before all to love, honor, and cherish. To disregard that by cheating shows that they are not worthy of respect. I had a few temptations while away from my wife, but never did anything about it, A, because I honor my commitments, and B, I loved my wife. It's a damn shame that she couldn't feel the same.

No respect for people who cheat in a relationship. Cheating is like injuring someone on the inside. Some will never trust again, some will develop depression - and so on.
You have a mind of your own, so there is no point in blaming your actions on someone or something else. Even if you regret it, someone will suffer because of a stupid decision you made.

If the person cheats then they never wanted a relationship in the first place.
Its a waste of time to even fool around with someone's heart if you truly didn't want to date them. The way I see it people who cheat don't want true relationships because they just wanna fool around. They don't like getting tied down to one person. No. I don't have respect for the person that cheats in a relationship. If you don't want to date then remain alone.

That's just my own personal opinion though.
