I guess one of the more prominent examples is: Darker than Black. The protagonist is Chinese it is a small step in diversifying anime it might take a bit longer before anime be a little more tolerant in what is being aired.

two cases real fast, one the advertisement in hentai ouji of the Korean guy and Japanese people raged. second, the korea zombie in HOTD they also raged.

Oh yeah, I know Japan has strong issues with Korea (although I'm not sure if that's just a vocal minority or an actual thing). I think that's more nationalistic than ethnic though; kind of like England and France back in the Middle Ages.

Black Lagoon is probably the single most diverse anime I can think of in terms of the racial spectrum.

I was really surprised when I found out Revy was Chinese-American, not Japanese.

I watch a lot of anime regularly but I don't seem to see that much yaoi. I definitely see more yuri than yaoi but even then I don't recall seeing too much of either lately... Most I ever see is the yaoi fangirl and sometimes her yaoi delusions but that's about it. I personally don't mind too much when watching anime though so maybe I am just oblivious to it...

I don't mind yaoi at all, it is the manservice in Free! and UtaPri★ that makes me feel uncomfortable so now I understand how some people don't like fanservice...

Honestly, BL is fine, guys kissing is fine but guy's crotch shots and clothing optional stuff... just not my thang... I don't think I'm homophobic, I have friends IRL who are that way and have absolutely no problem with it but anime that are manservicey just are not my cuppa tea!

But Shun kissing other guys in Shinsekai Yori I had no problem with. SNAFU I had no problem with it at all, in fact I really liked it and could even have shipped Hachiman x Totsuka, he's cute.

Guess I've just gone full moe...

It seems people are more so tired of moeblob fanservice rather than uncomfortable like Free! and Uta.

Then again without having watched the first episode of Free! it isn't any different than other anime of that genre, just guys instead of girls.

See... the flaw of saying "another yaoi hate thread" is... a girl made this thread.

Yeah, she grew up in China Town in Manhattan or something.

And Dutch is an ex-marine who went AWOL towards the end of the Vietnam War.

The only problem I had with Shin Sekai Yori was how homosexuality was considered an adolescent side-trip on the way to actual sexual maturity. Which is kind of parallel to my dislike of Saki going from badass to waifu.

It did play an interesting role in their society, though.

Same; I'm just watching it like it's K-On or Hyouka or whatever else.

Sexism! Why is the gender important to the sentiment?

The only thing saki did wrong was cut her hair >.> I literally raged more at her cutting her hair than anything else in that series.

This kinda ties in to the perfect anime... lol.

The only real problem I have with the abundance of yaoi is the complete lack of yuri. But other than that, I think you may be overreacting a little.

In Shinsekai Yori with the Bonobo genes it was in some ways not even yaoi or yuri it was just getting along with everyone so they don't fight, resolving conflicts, etc. but those kids really did have relationships with each other beyond resolving conflicts. The love of Saki AND Satoru for Shun and Mamoru and Maria and Saki... all possible combinations. I just found Saki and Satoru's love for Shun to be a really interesting driving force in the series and it wouldn't have been possible without the boys loving each other too so I appreciate it and don't mind it at all.

The girls nose bleeding at yaoi in anime is a trope but it still makes me laugh every time so again, I don't mind!

And I like yuri of course.

But shows JUST about guys without some gangirls don't interest me as much. The reverse harems either, I try but... somehow I made it through Amnesia but I'm not sure I will make it through BroCon....

^^^ This! And this is why I liked Shinsekai Yori, a bit of both. And SNAFU too, some yuri hints with Yui x Yukinon along with the Hachiman x Totsuka. Just love, need more love and romance in anime IMO! LOL

And I loved Saki in waifu mode, hnnngggggg, could totally go for that! But Shun was cute too LOL

I don't think most people have a clear concept of what Yaoi is. Just because it has an all male cast that can easily be slashed into fan-fiction fodder doesnt make it yaoi. Having a flamboyantly gay character doesnt make it yaoi. Or having a straight male character think one guy is "cool" doesnt make it yaoi. Honestly, even most characters in yaoi anime don't start out gay. In animes like Gravitation or Junjou Romantica rarely are the main protagonist just flat out gay or have always been gay. One of the only honest depictions I've seen of a gay man is Ono from Antique Bakery and even he is a bit over the top.

Anyways, final rule of thumb. If there isnt buttseks involved, it isnt yaoi.
