They don't seem to make OVAs as often as they use to. It seems most OVAs nowadays are yaoi or sequels to already aired anime.

Anyways, have you ever seen an OVA you wish had been made to a full length series? I have two that I would have loved to have seen more of...

OMG, definitely battle angel or more correctly Ganmu/Gun Dream! I have been reading that manga since the 90's, I own all 27 volumes (9 volumes first series, so far 18 volumes second series) and the OVAs on VHS and I really wonder why they never made it into an anime after that. Probably because effin James Cameron has the movie rights but he made Avatar first as a test and now he has to make a zillion Avatars before he can make Battle Angel.

They used to make direct to video OVAs for any series they couldn't get into prime time TV viewing but now they make it and show it after midnight instead which is most or all of the shows we watch here on Crunchyroll. About the only stuff they make direct to OVA now is really ecchi/hentai stuff where they would have to censor the whole thing to get it on TV. Recently I really enjoyed the Nozoki Ana OVA and hope they make more.

Out of old stuff I think it would be fun to remake some Plastic Little, Dirty Pair, Dominion Tank Police, Patlabor, Angel Cop, etc. basically take my VHS collection and make modern anime series out of them and I'd be happy!

Good choices.

The recent Little Witch Academia also qualifies. People have been clamoring for a series ever since it came out a few months ago. And hey, no yaoi in it!

Battle Angel

Really really really want to see the rest of the story animated. Especially the motorball arc. Crazy cyborg martial arts battles while flying down a racetrack at high speed. Mid-air fights against multiple chainsaw whips. And the big dramatic showdown with the champion (perfect end for season right there).

They could easily get two great seasons out of the original manga.

Five Star Stories

A grand sci-fi epic across time and space full of action, drama and mecha. And it got only a one hour ova?
This story deserves more.

Sol Bianca

Just because the first ova was just so damn good.

Denpa Teki na Kanojo. I know it was only three chapters but I wished a, they had animated the 2nd chapter and b, continued it with at least another story. It deserved more insight into the characters and there seemed to be something hinting about the overall plot with the two main characters that I felt wasn't fleshed out.

Black Rock Shooter. I hoped the tv series would've picked up from where the ova ended but it seemed to be a different direction for the story.

I can't think of seeing many more.

Tokyo Babylon. Seriously, why doesn't that ever become a TV series? I enjoyed the OVA.

Totally agree with everyone that said Battle Angel, and all those old ones on VHS, lol.

Some others that weren't mentioned:

Iria - Zeiram the Animation <--- How dare no one mention this one, lol
Vampire Hunter D (maybe)
Suikoden Demon Century <-- only because the videogame series is awesome
Ninja Ryukenden <--- only because the Ninja Gaiden videogame series is awesome, too!
Project A-ko (maybe, I think I missed a couple of the OAVs)
FLCL <-- Not really, but I'm sure thousands of other people would want this! xD

There is a Black Rock Shooter TV series. It sucked.

Karas
Gunbuster
Diebuster
I also want something set in the Kite/Mezzo Forte/Kite Liberator universe, only with different characters. Oh, and anyone who says Mezzo DSA will get punched in the face. I don't know if Umetsu just can't write likable characters and is only good at world building or something, but there are some shitty people in all three of those. (When I say shitty people, I mean that some are poorly written, and some are well written but I hate them anyways)

Well, they were based on a series of light novels, and were probably just produced to encourage sales of the books. Still doesn't keep me from wanting more, though.

And FLCL is just about perfect as it is.

In general, most "OVA" releases seem to have been changed into "OAD"s packaged with limited edition manga volumes, or are just follow-up episodes to TV series, and I don't expect that to change; the '80s boom has been long over.
