Yes, it is based upon a manga of the same name:
http://myanimelist.net/manga/28174/Love_Lab
It's been published for a long time, 7 years! But it must not be popular as it seems very little has been translated, just the first few chapters someone must have done since the anime was announced. 4-koma is usually ignored by translators as people aren't usually as interested in it over here.

I don't read this one. I think it is 4-koma from a quick search (search for 恋愛ラボ and you will be reading it if you can read Japanese). The 9th volume just came out so it certainly sounds like there should be enough material for a second season but I'm not certain.

3 chapters may have been translated.

If I didn't have a hundred unread Japanese books on my shelf already I'd buy the 9 volumes... if I ever run out of things to read LOL

Love Lab was absolutely adorable and I enjoyed it a lot!! I wish it was more popular though - it looks like it got overshadowed by the other animes this season?

I agree with you; this has become one of my favorite titles. It proves it's possible to make a series of "cute girls doing cute things" using more complex and interesting characters with believable motivations and interactions, and to do a story about "looking for love" with lots of intrigue, twists, and character growth. And still make it all very funny.

I read the few chapters of what was translated but it wasn't so great. Compared to anime, at least beginning few chapters of manga presents average, and art is really nothing special. If i hadn't watched anime i would actually drop the manga after 1 or 2 chapters. Maybe it improve a lot in letter volumes, but from my point it looks like rare case of anime adaptation being a lot better then original manga.

Going by baka-updates anime covered volumes 1-4 and there is 9 volumes already released, so there is no problem with material. And from what i collected dvds of Love Lab sells great in Japan. So i highly believe that somewhere in 2014 we will see a sequel. I'm typing Summer 2014.

I truly enjoyed this anime, i was looking for something different.
Cute and innocent is what describes it the best
It had that effect on me, everytime i would watch an episode it removes the stress and cranks you up.

Well, I don't think Riko is straight, or at least she won't be by the time they are done with these love labs.

In reality, the premise of the story is that they are all straight. They are trying to figure out ways to attract guys. (Suzu, I expect is not from the get-go, but that is a guess.)

Whether there is an actual yuri development or not is a mystery we cannot know at the moment. I wouldn't doubt it, but the show is almost all humor, so I expect it will not have any serious developments, beyond what happened in the last episode of course.

I hope we get more. I seem to recall seeing good sales numbers or projections or something.

The fact that CR didn't announce it until the season was more than halfway over probably had something to do with that. And I think a lot of people wrote it off as another "cute girls doing nothing" show.

I think she's straight, just tomboyish and friendly.

Sales of v1 were pretty good but it was a cheap 1-episode volume so sales may drop. Still, I think it did well in a very tough season for anime sales.
