I agree with goober, soul eater works like a charm. Otherwise, it helps if the title of the anime has the friend's name (e.g. stein's gate)

First one I've showed to many friends is Gurren Lagann, that is insta hook every time. I won't even bother showing them any of the Harem comedies I enjoy like Rosario + Vampire. haha

Sorry if this has already been done before but I was interested in knowing in what Anime did you introduce your friends into and did they continue to watch anime or was it just a one time thing aka they didn't go for it.

Hi there, just FYI, I edited your title slightly to encourage a wider range of responses, and added some discussion points to your post. Basically, this was starting to spawn "similar but not quite" duplicates, and I think we can have a better discussion all in one thread.

I'm planning on giving Usagi Drop to my sister for Xmas; and not telling her about the manga. I've been planning to give some appropriate anime title to all my non-anime watching sibs, but haven't settled on what's most appropriate for each.

For me there is no one anime I introduce friends to--even my general top recommendation, Gankutsuou isn't going to be a good first experience for everyone.

I am trying to encourage one friend, who doesn't really watch anime on his own, to watch more, but it's not sticking, even though he's perfectly happy to watch whatever I pick when he visits--lately that's usually been Nyarko-san. He pretty much just rolls with whatever.

Back in the 90s, I tried to get someone into watching some Sailor Moon eps that I recorded on VHS, lol. He was all excited about it, but when I brought the tapes into school for him to borrow, he all of a sudden got hesitant and I think kept saying that he won't have time to watch them.

For the most part though, everyone that I've hung out with already seems to already know anime so I've never really had to introduce it to anyone. But if I ever did try to introduce someone that was completely new to it, I think I'd give them Princess Mononoke, or any Hayao Miyazaki films - just to get them started.

Higurashi.
Might seem odd but they like the grit of the 40k universe and the Cthulu Mythos so it seemed like a good bet.

I was right.

If I was to convert a non-anime watcher to one of us, I probably would go with Cowboy Bebop. I think it's not to over the top, mecha or magical type anime that might not click with people at first. I also think that Steins;Gate would be another good choice for someone to get into anime.

I've used several.

For my old roomates, who love kung fu and rap, I used Samurai Champloo.

For my work friend, who a huge blood and guts fan, I used Elfen Lied.

And for female friends, who have ZERO tolerance for fan service, I used Lovely Comlex.

World Masterpiece Fairytale Swan Lake.

Probably. Not too sure but I remember watching it a lot when I was four. A friend would always watch with us as well.

Thinking back I believe we had it on Betamax. LOL
