K-On with airsoft guns. Could be fun. 3/5 so far. Biggest negative is how they build brick walls into their own pacing by stopping dead before every fight and explaining everything instead of working the explanations into the action.

The cast isn't as good as Saki, Girls und Panzer, Strike Witches, etc., either, so this might be a drop as it is. But I thought that about Girls und Panzer too before I gave it a couple more episodes, so I'll wait to see what happens.

Edit: The guy trimming a bonsai tree with an airsoft gun also made me genuinely angry. That's probably one of the most disrespectful things I've ever seen anyone do in an anime like this one. I know that makes me weird but I don't care.

Bonsai trees are serious business to me apparently.

You know there was a close -up of Yura playing with her hair earlier in the episode. The writers pulled one over on us.It was subtle yet effective look how shocked everybody is.

To me the hair cutting is more of a personal taste thing. I can't stand the long flowing hair to wtf is this shit...

The characterization of "hair cutting" as character development/chang is bad.

COUNTERPOINTS
I could understand the K-ON likeness Yura/Yui ,Karilla/Ritsu,Rento/Tsumugi ,maybe not the others though. And the two clubs are as far apart as to their interests.

Cast ,I dont have a problem with this personally.

Fight scene explanations. They explain each game which I dont see as distracting IMO.I think the writers do a good service by being realistic for real Airsoft. Yes they be more specific to the anime but it does exist. Check out the real missions on the biggest Airsoft website.

Close Quarter Battle http://www.airsoftgi.com/CYM_spots/cqb/index.html

Field Missions http://www.airsoftgi.com/CYM_spots/field/index.html

Sniper http://www.airsoftgi.com/CYM_spots/sniper/index.html

Girls and Panzer comparison

I have little knowledge of Bonsai trees sacred or anything like that.I think The Master was actually showing Sonora how serious he was to get her to do right by using it as a sacrifice. If you remember EP 2 the same with the Rice Balls. It reminds me of Kiil Biil training. and probally expect to see more.

In this case I think It works pretty well.

It really caught my attention in the first couple of episodes how Yura retreats into her hair when nervous. It was a nice and often subtle part of her character animation all through the first three episodes, a very strong sign of her introverted nature. Clearly a habit she herself recognized and wants to change.

Now of course just cutting it off shouldn't make an instantly changed personality,
I can imagine her in future episodes reaching for her hair only to find it gone and going into guts mode from the reminder that she wants to change.

This was something they built up to and I think they did a good job of it, and used properly I think it'll be a great tool for the animators future episodes.

In Japanese stories the haircut indeed often symbolizes a desire to change yourself. Monogatari used it, not really shown in Nisemonogatari hence all the "Senjougahara in short hair WTF!!" comments. It is not new or unique here and should not be surprising.

What is a little surprising is how fast it occurred! I thought Yura's character development would take all season, would in fact be the reason for the season and yet here we are, in episode 3 she is already playing with the whole team and by the end of the episode she has cut her hair and is ready for her yuri partnership with Inaba, I mean Sonora... and I fully approve! Well, I can dream now, can't I?

Fun show, doesn't have the depth of characters (yet?) of Girls Und Panzer and as I said it seems they've already shot off a clip of character development. I hope it continues to surprise me.

I rewatched the first episode with a friend who is a real Airsoft guy and he loved how they were calling themselves freaks. He is more of a Ghibli guy as far as anime goes but he enjoyed C3. He liked how they included all the safety equipment, the sounds of the guns are realistic (I have played myself) and the scenarios are real game situations (same used in Paintball as well).

I enjoyed the rewatch too so it seems like this could be a rewatch/buy series if it gets really good.

objectively it works very well

subjectively again.... ooo dear. I usually take a moment every time a character does this, and I have to digest the information.

For the most part I would tend to agree. A lot of the time someone dose the whole hair cutting thing the only real significance it seems to have is that the person was always known for having long beautiful hair or that the long hair was a status symbol of some kind.

In this case the hair was a pretty integral part of her shy personality and the first couple of episodes showed that fairly well. She is effectively throwing away her hiding place in an effort to force herself to be more open. That's why I think it works well here

Honestly, it's kinda boring. The characters, the soundtrack, the setting, and the action.

I think the overall concept is very similar to Girls Und Panzer but I actually enjoyed that show because the soundtrack was decent, the setting is really cool, and the action was excellent.

Even if it is a slice of life too they were trying to realistic withe the airsoft but those segments took away from it IMO
