I loved this show! 10/10.
I want to live in this world. As an historian i loved the history major girl who was huge into BL and had major spazzing issues.
I also hope for a 4th season.

I seriously need to rewatch all the previous seasons and OVAs, and then I apparently need to read the entire manga up until this point, because it seems this episode had some flashbacks on some things I dont even remember about.

But anyways, it was a fun show. Probably not as great as when it originally came out, (God that was so long ago) but it was fun.

Those flashbacks would be to when Ogiue and Sasahara really started to get close.

OVA is coming in December but I agree this needs season two. Very enjoyable. 8/10

Was this not season 2...?

LOL This was like season 3 or 4..? I lost track. Between the different OVA's and the middle stuff shoved into Kuchibiki Unbalanced it feels longer.

That said I can't imagine someone watching this for the first time without all of the backstory. It just wouldn't make sense.

I dunno; I don't know anything about Genshiken except what was shown in this series, but I didn't have any trouble following the story or understanding what was going on or what motivations were in play.

I'm sure I'm missing some layers, but none of it came across as recondite.

Edit: Although it's possible I'm missing out on tons of stuff and just not realizing it.

Teheheheheh entirely possible. Happy though you liked it even if you missed a lot of story. I'd strongly recommend watching the other 3 seasons. I loved Ohno from Season 2 when Ogi was introduced (She was introduced in the OVA actually).

Personally I like watching stuff from season 1. Any series season 1 not just Genshiken. It's a personal preference for me. I'd be annoyed seeing flashbacks and implied knowledge sections and not knowing I'm not part of the conversation. Heck I've even omitted watching some CR series because they picked up Season 2+. I was lucky and surprised that Genshiken was one I was not only familiar with but owned the complete set before it was announced the current season was going to show on CR.

Now that this season is over (regardless of what they called it LOL) I was a little perturbed Ohno had almost NO story in this season and Ogi was a shadow of herself this time around. I was a bit surprised how much they abandoned the previous characters but understood since they graduated from the college, however Ohno and Ogi were still there but the story wasn't really about them but of Hato. Don't get me wrong I loved this season but I was saddened that they didn't bother doing more with Ohno and Ogi. I am though happy they didn't continue the gag with Sasa's sister. She annoyed the hell out of me. Though if they did that they would have had to put more of Kousuka and Saki. 13 episodes wasn't long enough to include more of that.

I'm not stupid, I knew there were several seasons of this canon in the past, I've even watched a couple episodes of the very first one back from 2004.

I was just pointing out at this series specifically was labeled "2nd season"...obviously not the second outing for these characters but I figured it was for a reason.

As I said...I didn't have any trouble enjoying the series, but sometimes it was pretty obvious that there was plenty of content in the past in the context of the show.

is anyone else upset the summed up the story so quickly, completely diverging from the manga? watching from the first season years ago they stayed on key with the manga. but in this season and this episode they just kinda wrapped up so early. reading the authors note was sad in the latest chapter upon walking into that days voice over session and him hearing it was the last day of work for the voice actors. i dont know, i guess it's normal for a tv series to change the plot line when the original content isn't even finished. just kinda sucks ya know.

It isn't that normal but it seems like it is becoming at least a bit normal for Kadokawa manga adaptations, especially ones with OVAs coming up. I don't want to spoil people on other series but most of their series the last couple of years have changed things in the last episode of the regular season and then had an anime only OVA. A short list of the ones I know of:

So now I expect an anime only OVA for Genshiken too. Which can be alright, I actually enjoyed all the OVAs I listed in the spoiler but they are different for sure.

So were the changes THAT drastic? I have never read the manga so I have no idea. It seems.. short though from my own perspective.

Loved this series :D

Cried my eyes out during the resolution of the Madarame/Kasukabe storyline (after three (four if you count ovas) series and 11+ manga volumes it really hit me)

No the changes weren't drastic. It was actually pretty spot on faithful until the last episode. That was completely new stuff but the rest of the season was a faithful adaptation.

That's a relief. So basically they cut short what the mangaka thought they were going to cover? Any idea what the OVA is supposed to be about? I doubt CR will carry that though.

"Striped" pantsu are what Sue really wanted and wore back to America in this OVA that is really just Genshiken, not Nidaime but whatever... it was great, really funny! We need more of these!

I watched my disc bought with manga #15 so no bad subs or subs at all for me.
