Thanks for Genshiken, I'm really looking forward to that one. Too bad about Kaiji, though - I'm surprised that it isn't available in scandinavia since it isn't a sublicense from anyone (as far as I know), and CR has been good to us so far this season, so I'd hate to think that they just didn't bother.

Wow, I watched Kaiji through legally ambiguous channels only a few months ago - I really didn't expect to see it here on Crunchyroll, and available in the UK, too! It's one of the best thrillers I've ever seen, and I'd highly recommend it to anyone who likes some adrenaline in their anime.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see a home video license by another company (e.g., NISA or Sentai) announced later.

Kaiji is a pleasant surprise. I'll add that to my queue. I wonder if that is part of a package deal with NTV or a standalone catalog get.

Since I'm still in the process of watching the previous seasons of Genshiken, I'll put off Nidaime until I am done with that.

The two previous seasons and the OVAs were licensed by Media Blasters and I believe they no longer have the rights to that. CR would need to get them from a different distributor(Media Factory) since the production committee for the third season Genshiken Nidaime(the one just announced) is completely different.

By "season one", I assume you are referring to the first two series. (Yes, it is confusing they are calling this one "Season Two").

AnimeWorks, a division of Media Blasters most recently held the license for both, but I think that license may have expired.

If it is standalone, I'm betting it was in conjuction with a home video distributor that has yet to announce.

If it was a package deal with NTV, that could be good news for those wanting CR to get Gatchaman Crowds, which is the second title to premiere on NTV this season. (CR already has Chronicles of the Going Home Club (Kitakubu Katsudou Kiroku) which is the first).

now I'm even more confused.
Is Genshiken 2 a continuation of the previous series or is it a reboot/retelling of the original series?

It is a continuation. Think of it as "Genshiken Second Generation" (although some of the younger of the original members are still there).

Nowadays when Media Blasters licenses something, I always wonder if they are actually going to be able to get it out the door:
